Found on Rootsweb The story of Englethwaite Hall and the Thomlinson family's business is set out in in Ian Tyler's book 'Gypsum in Cumbria', published in 2000 by Blue Rock Publications. It is still in print - ISBN 0 9523028 4 5 If you google for ENGLETHWAITE (note spelling LE not EL) you may find more. Jennifer |

Paul Barton, Special Agent | Report | 15 Jul 2006 16:23 |
..... a vast and luxurious mansion at Englethwaite Hall. In the 1880's the business became part of a national concern. In the nineties, despite his business success, John Thomlinson bankrupted himself and the treasures of Englethwaite Hall were auctioned off for a comparartive pittance. Note the correct spelling of Englethwaite if you want to research further. |

"John Thomlinson's eventual decline and bankruptcy was something covered in an earlier article on Englethwaite Hall. All that remained at Englethwaite Hall by 1900, to remind John Thomlinson of the past glory of Joseph Robinson and Co, were watercolours by W H Nutter of Reservoir Farm and Denton Mill. " |
