Thanks jools, I've already trolled through the crew members of the Ophir and Ernest wasn't on it, very disappointed to find out he wasn't on that ship even bought my mother the book on the 'Ophir' 1901 for christmas (it's her grandfather) she'll be upset. Can only think whoever catalogued the crew list put it to the wrong ship, I guess it doe's pay to double check!!! Thanks again for your help Michelle:) |

As you say ancestry have him on Ocean not Ophir. If no one has any credits for the government 1901, I suppose the only way is for you to go right through the images for Ophir to be sure he's not on her. Ophir starts at rg13/5328 f 115 p1 !!!! UPDATE !!!!1 The thing is - on census night Ocean was a battleship in Hong Kong, whereas Ophir was the royal yacht in the Suez Canal en route to Australia. Does that help?? |

On the government 1901 site, the Ernest Paramore you seem to be referring to is age 18 but born Stapehill, Gloucestershire. What did the ancestry census entry say - or what folio/page of piece 5328 is he? |

Doe's anyone have access to the 1901 census online now owned by GR, the reason I'm asking is last year I subscribed to 1901 census online and viewed an image of my great grandfather Ernest Paramore, it said he was on the vessell 'Ophir' after losing the file I saved it to, I had to find it again, this time I went through Ancestry as i am a subscriber, only to find he is listed as crew of HMS Ocean. If someone has access to this 1901 census online, could they please have a look and see what ship it says, many thanks ERNEST PARAMORE B.1883 BRIDGWATER SOMERSET Regards Michelle |
