I've hit a bit of a brick wall and would be grateful for any pointers anyone could give me.

My ggg gf William Cave (1839) married Catherine Tailby (c 1837) on 22 Sept 1861 at St Marys in Leicester.

I have the marriage certificate and it says Catherines father is William Tailby and is a mechanic. It doesn't say he is dead but i know that is not always given, he isn't one of the witnesses so its a possibility.

I also know that its possible that an illegitimate child could lie about their father on marriage certificate as i have that on another ancestor where i am more certain.

Problem is I can't find anything on Catherine prior to the marriage in 1861, including the 1861 census which was only a few months prior to the wedding. the certificate says she is a spinster so i am assuming for now that Tailby is her maiden name.

On the census records from 1871 onwards her place of birth is recorded as Leicester

Any help greatly appreciated

Paula
