I only got taught nice rhymes as well Marilyn, must be our age!!

I don't use a mouse on my lappy but I'm using hubby's at the moment, and he needs a mouse on his because he's got big clumsy hands.

My Grandad lived next door to us and was a constant source of information/entertainment to my older brother and me.
He had a host of daft rhymes and sayings, which sadly I've long forgotten.

He was always getting into trouble with us.

Once, when we were 8 or 9 or so, my brother and I had each been given little bow and arrow sets (we lived in the country, you understand, and 'Cowboys and Indians' was a recurrent play theme). Now, these arrows had little suction pads on the end and were, to be honest, pretty dire. The bows were feeble, too and the arrows never flew more than a few feet. Well, Grandad agreed that an upgrade was in order and he took us across the field to the nearest wood and he cut some wood to make 'proper bows'. These were fantastic - the little arrows flew much further, but hey, Grandad wasn't finished! He made us some 'proper arrows' too, with pointed ends and notches to slide into the bow string. Now those arrows really zinged along and flew almost all the way across the garden. (We had a large garden - 3/4 acre, or thereabouts). We were in business!!
My brother decided to show our Mum how effective this new kit was. (bearing in mind his enthusiasm was better than his aim). Well Mum was pegging out washing and she just bent down to pick another item out of the basket, when a very sharp arrow pierced her left buttock!! OMG, I can still remember all the fuss. My brother AND my Grandad had to run for cover and lie low for the rest of the day. Mum had a massive bruise and the bows and arrows were confiscated and burned. Grandad got a lecture for being irresponsible and his credibility rating shot through the roof with us and all our friends.

Dormouse,I think your granddad was a secret hoodie ,him and my granddad would of got on well always making toys for us.from bits of wood.

The only thing that my mother told him off about was, he had a habit of swearing every other word ,But not the words of today of course !
He used to tell us nursery rhymes then add a swear word to make sound funny .....
Well its not bad today, might even go and look at the garden
