Hello All

I find that days are pretty much the same after we both retired. The only structure to our days now revolve around hubby ongoing various hospital outpatient appointments.

I have a quote pinned to the kitchen noticeboard it states:

Yesterday is history Tomorrow is a mystery, Today is a gift,
That is why it's called The Present. (Alice M. Earle).

We only have to look around and be grateful for the gift of the present day.

Thinking of all in need of prayerful support right now. xx

Good morning :-)

I hope everyone is keeping as well as possible. I am going through a stage of disturbed nights with OH and I slept for 2 hours yesterday afternoon. :-0 I am hoping that this stage soon passes...... :-)

All being well, we are off to the dentist this afternoon - the excitement never ends.....

For today:

Lord, it’s Tuesday.
It sounds a bit like, choose-day.
Yes, I will have to make choices.
I must choose what clothes to wear.
I must choose what food to eat.
I must choose what things to do and in what order.
Lord, it’s easy to make wrong choices that may
affect not only me but other people.
Help me to make right decisions not only for my
good but for the good of other people.
May your name be honoured in my life today.
Amen.

Love to all, Cx :-)

Hello All

Our night was disturbed when the smoke alarm went off 1.10am Sunday morning. I checked all rooms and could see nothing visible that would cause this alarm to be activated. Not a good experience, as neither of us could settle back to sleep until exhaustion kicked in. Thankfully it hasn't happened again and I am just beginning to relax after such a shocking fright.

Cynthia, you and your husband have our sympathy as we often also have unsettled sleep with hubby's pain. I hope the dentist isnt too much of an ordeal for you either.

Today is my younger sisters 61st birthday, she is catching up with me, but has a way to go yet ha ha

Good morning :-)

A nasty fright for you indeed kandj......hope your nerves have settled down again.

We actually had a good night last night and the visit to the dentist was fine......so good to feel rested. :-)

A Prayer on Wednesday

Lord, it’s Wednesday already.
Half the week gone.
And what have I got to show for it?
Time seems to pass so quickly.
Please help me today Lord
To get my priorities right,
To make the most of each hour,
To enjoy each moment.
And then, at the end of the day
To say, “Thank you Lord!”
Amen

Good Morning All

We are beginning to relax now Cynthia after the fright in early hours Sunday. Fingers crossed it won't happen again.

Some happy news to share. Our niece and husband are expecting a new baby in February..... so knitting needles will be on the go as she has asked me if I will knit her a baby shawl the same as I knitted for her sister four years ago. Of course I was keen to say yes, but I have to find the safe place that I put the knitting pattern years ago??

A gentle hug for all in need today. xxx

How lovely to hear of your niece's pregnancy Kandj. I hope everything goes well for her. Our niece is shortly expecting her first baby so the family are all excited about that.

Cynthia, I do hope your husband continues to have more settled nights. I always think it is easier to cope with whatever the day brings if you have had some rest.

Congratulations to Emma and Mr Emma on the birth of your great grandson. It's so nice to get good news.

It seems the season for babies. A friend called in this morning to let me know that her son and dil had a baby girl yesterday.

So today I am offering up a thank you for the safe arrival of the babies that have just been born and a prayer that their lives will be blessed

Good morning :-)

What lovely news about all these babies...........makes me quite broody :-D

On second thoughts..........maybe not :-D

Welcoming a new baby into a family is always an exciting time and I echo Vera's thoughts on giving thanks for the new arrivals and for blessings on their lives.

For today:

Prayer on Thursday

Lord, it’s Thursday.
Help me to think of others today.
Is there someone I can help?
Is there someone I can phone?
Is there someone I can write to?
It’s so easy to think of my own needs,
When the needs of other people may be greater than mine.
Lord, you gave yourself in service to others.
Help me to be more like you.
This is my prayer for today.
Amen

Love to all Cx :-)

Hello Everyone, what lovely news we have to share with each other. It's nice to pass on good news when there is so much sadness all around just now.

I have thankfully found the knitting pattern and now have to find the time to knit the new baby shawl in 3 ply fine wool, so it takes ages to grow. Plenty of time till Feb.

Cynthia, I am enjoying your prayers for the different days of the week.

Thoughts to all in need of support at this time

Get knitting kandj, so pleased you found the pattern, as
you say 3ply it will take ages but I used to love to see the

May happiness and joy visit everyone today x

Babies, babies everywhere......how lovely..... <3

Meant to say the other day - our visit to the dentist went very well. Our teeth - all our own - are in very good order. It's good to know that something is doing well - even if it is only our teeth :-D

A Prayer on Friday

Lord, here I am.
It’s another day – Friday.
For some people it’s the end of their working week.
The weekend break is ahead.
Time, maybe,¬ for the family, the garden, sport, odd jobs.
So today Lord, I pray for families,
For parents and children.
I ask your blessing and peace
To be with every family.
Hold them together with a great love for each other.
Amen

Hope everyone is as well as can be expected Cx :-)

'Radio religious programmes not popular' - by Joanna Moorhead.

'RELIGIOUS PROGRAMMES are the least popular of those broadcast by BBC Radio 4, according to a new report from the corporation’s governing body.

Results from the most comprehensive review of the BBC’s speech radio output, which included an ICM poll of more than 2,000 interviews, reveal that only 15 per cent of Radio 4 listeners say they listen to religious programmes, compared with 88 per cent who listen to news programmes and 87 per cent who listen to current affairs programmes.

Listeners were also more critical of religious output than of other programming, with 34 per cent of those who listened to them saying they were “OK” as compared with “excellent” (22 per cent), “very good” (16 per cent) or “good” (25 per cent). Two per cent of listeners said the output on faith was “poor”.

In its report on the research, the BBC Trust defended its religious output, saying it was “highly appreciated” by listeners. Among those who did tune in to individual programmes such as Prayer for the Day, it said, there was high audience appreciation.

The report said Radio 4 has no plans for change to its output at present'.

Hello All

I agree Cynthia, it makes a change to have happy baby news to share around.

Interesting thought Dermot. Radio and TV Christian programmes serve a good purpose when it's not possible to actually go out to join in a church service, inmho.

Bank Holiday weekend ahead, so whatever you have planned I hope that this will be a good time for everyone. I think that the weather is forecast to be fairly good.

Love the life you live,

My thoughts are for those who will be alone during this long weekend. xxx

Good morning :-)

An interesting article Dermot - thank you. I have to admit that I rarely listen to the radio these days - just in the car really. My radio is used for the cd function where I listen to audio thrillers whilst ironing :-D

However, I do think that the coverage of Christian faith items on television is poor. There are those who are unable to attend church because of ill health - those on shift work and those who may just want to tune into something uplifting to help them through their day. It seems that this sort of thing is pushed to one side whilst the search for the more 'interesting', 'entertaining' or 'thrilling' items goes on.

The younger generation is growing up on a television diet of celebrity scandal, dysfunctional families, scandalous gossip and much more besides.....none of which add up to a well balanced outlook on life.

Here endeth the lesson ;-)

For today:

A Prayer on Saturday

Lord, its Saturday,
A traditional day for sport and for shopping.
But some people still have to work.
Help me to think of shop workers,
Help me to think of those who are working in hospitals.
Help me to think of the police.
It’s so easy to think of myself and my own enjoyment
And to take for granted that others are working on my behalf.
May your will be done on earth
As it is in heaven.
May you be glorified today.

Amen

Keeping prayer requests in mind. Cx :-)

I hope everyone is well. I had a message from our friend who originated this thread yesterday. He is keeping busy and his granddaughter is an absolute delight. He hopes to be allowed back on the boards around 2021 :-D

The Collect

Almighty God,
who called your Church to bear witness
that you were in Christ reconciling the world to yourself:
help us to proclaim the good news of your love,
that all who hear it may be drawn to you;
through him who was lifted up on the cross,
and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Hello All

Nice to hear that John is keeping in touch with you Cynthia. His little granddaughter is sure to keep him busy. "Hello" and good wishes to John, I am sure he will be keeping his eye on us all.

This morning we will visit our sister in law as Ann is 80 today. The family are all going for celebration lunchtime meal, sadly hubby still isn't well enough but we can pop in with card, gift and hugs from the two of us before they all go out to eat.

Good morning :-)

I'm sure your sister-in-law was delighted to see you kandj and I hope she had a lovely birthday. <3

My OH had a really good day yesterday - managed to get to church and, after the service, was able to get round to chat to folk. It's surprising how much these little things, which we used to take so much for granted, mean so much now.

For today:

Being Thankful

Dear Lord, thank you so much for another day of life on Earth.

Thank you for another beautiful sunrise to enjoy.

Thank you for the wonderful sounds of nature, from the cool breeze brushing through the trees to the birds singing melodies.

You are a wonderful God, full of grace and mercy.

I praise you for allowing me another day to spend with my family.

I love you Father! Amen.

Hello All

That is good to hear Cynthia. I hope your husband continues to improve and enjoy being out with you and in church with all your friends.

Ann had a lovely 80th birthday with lots of cards and presents and visits from a great many folk who wanted to share in her special birthday yesterday.

Time for bed now and hoping for a peaceful nights rest for us both.
