Vera, so pleased that all is progressing well with your OH and brother. We have so much to thank the NHS for. I dread to think how we would all manage without it.

New Testement. He was beheaded in Rome because they couldn't

crucify a Roman. Is anything known of his back ground ?

A big, burly man visited the pastor's home and asked to see the minister's wife, a woman well known for her charitable impulses.
"Madam," he said in a broken voice, "I wish to draw your attention to the terrible plight of a poor family in this district. The father is dead, the mother is too ill to work, and the nine children are starving. They are about to be turned into the cold, empty streets unless someone pays their rent, which amounts to £400."
"How terrible!" exclaimed the preacher's wife. "May I ask who you are?"
The sympathetic visitor applied his handkerchief to his eyes. "I'm the landlord," he sobbed.

The good Lord didn't create anything without a purpose, but the fly comes close.

Most of us spend the first six days of the week sowing wild oats, then we go to church on Sunday and pray for a crop failure.

Do you know the three times that most people are in church? When they are hatched, matched and dispatched.

Quit griping about your church; if it were perfect, you couldn't belong.

I can't say that I am acquainted with said gentleman David and I am glad that I have already had my breakfast :-0 ;-)


I have been a little late in catching up with the news and was horrified to read reports of the young policeman who was murdered on Thursday - just 4 weeks after his marriage. The grief caused to his young wife and family is unimaginable. We pray for them and for his friends and colleagues at this sad time.

It is often asked 'Why do bad things happen to good people?' This is one of the most difficult questions to answer but, as Christians, we believe that this life is not the end - there is so much more to come. The worst things happened to the best person - Jesus is no stranger to our pain.

Lord, we come to you with thoughts of care and concern for this young widow and all who loved Andrew. We ask that they may know that you love and care for them and that they will be strengthened by your grace. Give them courage as they face the days which lie ahead. May Andrew rest in peace and rise in glory. Amen.

It's just might be that the ancients devised their Sciences of Physics and

Chemistry from observing the human anat omy.

That’s an interesting way of looking at the human body David. I had never thought of it like that.

Cynthia, your prayer today took me back to my schooldays when it was a “regular” at our morning assembly, and I also remembered that immediately upon joining the school we had to learn by heart 3 prayers. One was a prayer for peace which I still say, one was a prayer for the school and all I can remember of that is “Bless, O Lord, our school” and I can't remember what the other one was at all. I shall have to see if googling will help me find out or it will be nagging at me all day :-D

Have you considered the laws of Physics at work in the human anatomy ?

Optics for our vision. Pneumatics at worl in our lungs for birth. Electricity at

work in our brain and heart. Accoustics at work in our hearing system.

Levers and pulleys at work in our skeleton and muscles. Hydraulics at work in

our kidneys and bladder. And when we compare our lungs and digestive

systen to the science of Chemistry, a Grand Designer at work.

I do like making people laugh I must admit......not the slapstick kind of laughter but love the play on words type. I used to enjoy the two Ronnies for that reason. :-D :-D


As for the crazy golf etc....it's a NO from me. I think there is a time and a place. It smacks of desperation which, in my eyes, shows a lack of faith. I have read several times, that services such as choral evensong are making a big comeback - people are looking for that quiet, reflective but uplifting type of worship - if they want a helter skelter, they can go to Alton Towers. Here endeth the first lesson!! :-D

Ahem....I had better move on!

A newly ordained deacon gave us a sermon yesterday and it was well worth while listening to. He brought in the importance of our prayer lives and it made me think of the prayers of the saints, people whose lives have had a great Christian influence in the world.
