Good morning :-)
Oh my word sorry I haven't posted but I am without internet and having to use the mobile data on my phone. It is so slow and tedious for me Greer
It all happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning when a car, driven by a lad high on drugs apparently, collided with the lamppost outside our house. The car then grazed down the wall, knocked the top of the gate post off, demolished the telegraph pole and went into the neighbour's wall He was injured but also arrested. Hence no internet and no landline.
Guess what? I SLEPT THROUGH IT ALL!
The first I knew was hearing the pick up truck taking the car away.
I will pop on here as often as I can. It's just so long winded on my phone.
Lord, grant us all a peaceful and happy day. Amen.
Cx :-)

Cynthia hasn't posted today or yesterday where I might expect to see her, so I add my good wishes and hope all is well. I know she has more to cope with than most and admire her devotion to this thread when others would have faltered.

I have also missed Cynthia and have been hoping that she and her family are all well and that perhaps her absence is down to a problem with her internet.
Thinking also of the people who have been so badly affected by Hurricane Dorian.

Good morning :-)
Wow - hurricane Dorian is something else! Imagine the strength of those winds! We pray for the people who are in the path of this ferocious wind.
Today with the Lord
Thank God that He gave us today - This day where you can live right and seek His face. It is but today that we have, so use it wisely. Seek Him whilst he can still be found, for tomorrow is not yours. Praise God for this day, thank him for today, yet another alive moment. Live today for Christ, choose Christ today and live.
Don’t put your hopes on tomorrow, tomorrow doesn’t belong to you. Whilst you have today, work for the Lord. Whilst you have today, choose Jesus Christ. Whilst you have today, surrender all to Jesus Christ, Meditate upon His word and seek His guidance.
Let Him, the Creator of the Universe guide your steps today. Spend today with the Lord, let Him speak to you. Let God be your shield for today - Choose wisely and choose Christ today. Thank you Lord, for today.

Good morning :-)
So pleased to hear that baby Connie is thriving......you must be so relieved Emma. <3
The Collect (special prayer) for today:
O God, you declare your almighty power most chiefly in showing mercy and pity: Mercifully grant to us such a measure of your grace, that we, running the way of your commandments, may receive your gracious promises, and be made partakers of your heavenly treasure; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The gospel reading tells of where Jesus was invited to the home of a chief Pharisee.

Hello all
Food for thought in today's post. Is it really so long since Diana's tragic death?
Vera I hope that your husband and brother are continuing to get stronger.
Emma I hope that baby Connie is still doing well.
Sending out ((hugs)) to all who feel lonely or sad today.

Good morning :-)
It's quite interesting coming on here in the mornings these days - I'm never quite sure what is to be discussed.....we have suddenly lurched from the Titanic to the Jewish people!
It's always been pretty obvious that many of the film magnates were of Jewish origin and I hadn't really given it much thought to be honest. There was a large Jewish community in Liverpool near to where I lived and my oldest friend is the daughter of a Polish Jew who lost his first wife in a concentration camp. He told my parents that there was also a daughter but my friend knows nothing of that, so maybe he chose not to tell his later children.
Whenever I hear the words El Cid, I immediately think of Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren and how his dead body was put on a horse in an endeavour to make it look as though he was still alive. You can tell I know my history!!! hahahaha
Right....moving on...…
In the early hours of Sunday 31st August 1997, news came through of the tragic death in a car accident of Diana, Princess of Wales, aged 36.
Cardinal Basil Hume spoke the following words later, and we can remember our own loved ones: “Faith admits us into death’s secrets. Death is not the end of the road, but a gateway to a better place. It is in this place that our noblest aspirations will be realised. It is here that we will understand how our experiences of goodness, love, beauty and joy are realities which exist perfectly in God. It is in heaven that we shall rest in him, and our hearts will be restless until they rest in God. We, left to continue our pilgrimage through life, weep and mourn. You, Diana, and your companions, too, are on your way to union with him who loves you so. He knows the love which you, Diana, had for others. God speaks now of his love for you. Our tears will not be bitter ones now, but a gentle weeping to rob our sadness of its agony and lead at last to peace, peace with God.”
Princess Diana had said: “There are two important things in life: kindness in another’s trouble, and courage in your own.”
Lord, I ask for the power of your Spirit in my life that I may live in such a way that I show kindness in another’s trouble, and courage in my own.

Just to clarify, whilst a substantial number of movie producers, actors etc in the early years of Hollywood were Jewish, that only reflects the wave of migration in the decades before. Much as one might say a lot of miners in PA around that time were of Welsh origin, or cops in NY or Boston were Irish etc etc.
These days I think you'll find that most studio heads are US born, but that the industry itself is much less about studios being owned by one specific 'name' and more being owned by corporations.
Given a list of movie stars past and present I think it would merely reflect the mix of ethnicity and religion that is America ( and long may it remain so ).

David .................
it makes no difference to me whether the majority of people in the film industry were Jewish or not.
If it makes a difference to you or if you make a point of finding out, then it is MY opinion that you are verging on discrimination, and that is abhorrent to me.

Most of the founders of the major film studios were Jewish, immigrants to the US from ( mainly) Eastern Europe who went West at much the same time. If you're interested David a brief article in the LA Times gives the background.
https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1988-09-25-bk-4083-story.html
Also briefly, from the article : “There were no social barriers in a business as new and faintly disreputable as the movies were in the early years of this century,” Gabler says. “There were none of the impediments imposed by loftier professions and more firmly entrenched businesses to keep Jews and other undesirables out.”
Many Jewish ( and non Jewish come to that) movie stars anglicised their names, eg Danny Kaye was born David Daniel Kaminsky, Kirk Douglas was Issur Danielovitch.

and that the majority of movie "stars" are Jews ?

As always, there were wars within wars at the time period that El Cid Lived.
He supported one King of Spain, fought against another King to support his master, and also fought against the Moors helping to drive them out of some parts of Spain.
It was the Moors that gave him the nickname El Cid, meaning "Lord" .......... but nothing at all to do with Jesus Christ or God so far as I can make out.
David ............ don't forget that movies are nothing but Hollywood glitz and glamour. Not much will have been accurate in the movie made in 1961 :-D

Wasn't it the Moors and other Spaniards that El Cid was fighting? Moors were Muslim.
