Thank you for all the "journeys" you take us on Cynthia. Do you never run out of ideas?

The Bible I treasure most was given to me by my aunt when I was her bridesmaid, aged 6. It means a great deal to me as I was very close to her and still miss her very much although she has been gone for many years now.

Thinking of all in need of support and strength to get them through today.

Good morning :-)

What a lovely reminder of your special day Emma. I can't remember the last time I saw a bride carrying a bible though :-(

Today we start our travels through some of the various online daily bible readings which are available. We start with UCB - United Christian Broadcasters who offer both online and reading material. Please click on the link for today's reading on God's faithfulness. Enjoy!

We pray for all those who have bibles laying around which are unused - that these precious books may be picked up, dusted off and read. Cx :-)

Hello all

That will be a very special bible Emma, reminding you of your wedding day.

I have several bibles here. Two I bought new. Three purchased from second hand stall and one special bible that was given to me by a member of church family, who sadly is no longer with us.

£800 is a good sum for the church fair and will be welcomed by everyone in church.

Night Vigil............... before I head off to bed, hoping for a decent nights sleep.

Watch thou, dear Lord
with those who wake, or watch or weep tonight
and give thine angels charge over those who sleep.
Tend thy sick ones, heavenly Father
Rest thy weary ones, bless thy dying ones
Soothe thy suffering ones.
Pity thine afflicted ones.
Shield thy joyous ones.
In Jesus' name. Amen.

I have the bible I carried on my wedding day,
the ribbons that were on it although the lily
of the valley flowers are well past their best.

Amen to your prayer Cynthia x

Good morning :-)

Yesterday went well thank goodness. The visiting priest was a hit with the congregation and the baptism families seemed pleased. It's unbelievable to think that, just three short years ago, we were sailing along with our beloved vicar, unaware of the turmoil which was shortly to be thrust upon us.

We are now facing yet another period of uncertainty as the lady appointed as our priest-in-charge last year, is moving to another diocese in June. We can only place our church family into God's hands and see what the future brings.

The fair went well on Saturday, but was held in church because we didn't have access to school due to half term. We were a few stalls down too which made a difference. However, £800 was raised, which all helps towards the cost of running the church.

I think we all probably have a bible lurking somewhere in the house.

The bible is a wonderful book made up of a collection of scriptures written at different times by different authors in different locations. Both Jews and Christians consider the books of the Bible to be an authoritative record of the relationship between God and humans.

Whilst there are many, many versions and translations of the bible to choose from the C. of E. does not authorise any particular translation. However, it does set a criteria for what is suitable to be read in public worship.

So where does that leave us in which version to read for our personal use? This week we will be taking a look at the various societies who produce daily online bible reading resources and see where it leads us.

Dear Lord, thank You for Your written Word and the mighty truths it contains. We pray that in the power of Your Holy Spirit You would open our hearts and minds to the truths that You wish us to see. Amen.

Hello all

It does sound to be a special Sunday in church for you today Cynthia. Enjoy it.

How much did you make with your Spring Fair yesterday? Hope everything went well and many came along to support your church yesterday. Every penny counts.

We also have a beautiful blue sky and sunshine here this morning. Now do I begin
painting the fence, or continue weeding the back garden border, hmmmm?? Decisions/decisions? Whatever you all have planned, I hope you enjoy today.

Sunday Blessings
God bless your day with
sunshine, smiles, laughter
kindness, peace and joy.

A gentle hug for those who see no sunshine in their day today. xxx

Good morning :-)

It's a beautiful Sunday morning - how lovely to see the sun shining. Two baby girls are to be baptised this morning and we have a visitor leading the service - could be interesting! :-D

Glad you enjoyed the joke Emma - it's good to see you.....x

Today is the third Sunday after Easter......

The Collect (special prayer) for today:

Almighty Father,
who in your great mercy gladdened the disciples
with the sight of the risen Lord:
give us such knowledge of his presence with us,
that we may be strengthened and sustained by his risen life
and serve you continually in righteousness and truth;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Good morning :-)

I remember those words from a long time ago kandj.... :-)

It's our spring fair at church today so am hoping the weather stays reasonable.

You are allowed to groan at the following.......

An angel was feeling rather blue with the uniform sameness of heaven and went to see St. Peter.

“All I do,” the angel said, “is play the harp endlessly, and I’m getting bored.”

St. Peter asked, “What would you rather do?”

The angel answered, “I like to dance.”

“We don’t allow dancing here in heaven,” St. Peter said, “but I can see you need a change so I will allow you to take advantage of a once-in-an-eternal- lifetime offer. I will allow you 24 hours leave to return to earth and dance.”

“I’m gone,” the angel said and in a trice the angel was in California and quickly found a dance hall run by Samuel Frank.

Checking the harp and wings, the angel boogied and danced and had a great time until just seconds remained of the leave.

The angel grabbed up the wings and immediately was in heaven again. Returning to St. Peter, the angel said, “I’m back and I am so happy. I’ll never feel bored again.”

St. Peter said, “That’s wonderful, but where is your musical instrument?”

“Oh, no,” the angel said, “I left my harp in Sam Frank’s Disco.” :-D :-D

Hello all

Yesterday the sun was shining and this is always a good tonic Cynthia, hence
the happy clappy sing song. Today is a dark morning with heavy rain.... hey ho.

This poem might interest someone.

When I Whine by Reg Foley.

Today on a bus, I saw a girl with lovely golden hair;
I envied her - she seemed without a care,
And Oh, I wished that I was so fair
When suddenly she rose to leave,
I saw her hobble down the aisle .
She had one foot and wore a crutch
But as she passed she gave a smile!
Oh God, forgive me when I whine;
I have two feet - the world is mine.

And when I stopped to buy some sweets,
The lad who served me had such charm;
He seemed to radiate good cheer,
His manner was so kind and warm.
I said, "It's nice to deal with you
Such courtesy I seldom find"
He turned and said, "Oh thank you sir"
And then I saw that he was blind.
Oh God forgive me when I whine
I have two eyes - the world is mine.

Then walking down the street
I saw a child with eyes so blue,
He stood and watched the others play;
It seemed he knew not what to do,
I stood a moment, then I said
"Why don't you join the others dear?"
He looked ahead without a word
And then I knew he could not hear.
Oh God, forgive me when I whine
I have two ears - the world is mine.

With feet to take me where I'd go
With eyes to see the sunset glow
With ears to hear what I should know
I'm blessed indeed, the world is mine
Oh God, forgive me when I whine.

I found this poem in an old church magazine and I thought it
was worth sharing. Sadly, this particular church is now no longer
used. The Vicar moved on to a parish where she was born because she was approaching retirement and the opportunity came to Minister miles away.

Thinking of all in need of prayerful support today. xxx

A vicar, apparently fed up with all the excuses given over the years as to why people don't go to church, included this list in the Sunday bulletin:

TEN REASONS WHY I NEVER WASH

1. I was forced to wash as a child.
2. People who wash are hypocrites -- they think they are cleaner than everybody else.
3. There are so many different kinds of soap, I can't decide which is best.
4. I used to wash, but I got bored and stopped.
5. I wash only on special occasions, like Christmas and Easter.
6. None of my friends wash.
7. I'll start washing when I get older and dirtier.
8. I can't spare the time.
9. The bathroom is never warm enough in winter or cool enough in summer.
10. People who make soap are only after your money.

Three things in life that are never certain...

1. Fortune

2. Success

3. Dreams

Carry on singing everyone... Cx :-)

If you're happy and you know it stamp your feet (stamp stamp)
If you're happy and you know it and you really want to show it

If you're happy and you know it shout "Amen", Amen!
If you're happy and you know it shout "Amen", Amen!
If you're happy and you know it and you really want to show it
If you're happy and you know it shout "Amen", Amen!

If your happy and you know it
do all three clap clap, stamp stamp, Amen!
If you're happy and you know it
do all three clap clap, stamp stamp, Amen!
If you're happy and you know it and you really want to show it
If you're happy and you know it
do all three clap clap, stamp stamp, Amen!

Phew.... time for a cuppa now. Sending hugs to those who need them. xxx

Very wet and windy here today..............more smiles for you....

An elderly woman walked into the local country church. The friendly usher greeted her at the door and helped her up the flight of steps. "Where would you like to sit?" he asked politely.
"The front row please." she answered.
"You really don't want to do that", the usher said. "The vicar is really boring."
"Do you happen to know who I am?" the woman inquired.
"No." he said.
"I'm the vicar’s mother," she replied indignantly.
"Do you know who I am?" he asked.
"No." she said.
"Good", he answered. :-D

To make you smile.......

To make it possible for everyone to attend church this Sunday, we are going to have a special "No Excuse Sunday":

Beds will be placed in the porch for those who say, "Sunday is my only day to sleep in." There will be a special section with lounge chairs for those who feel that our pews are too hard.

Eye drops will be available for those with tired eyes from watching TV late Saturday night. We will have steel helmets for those who say, "The roof would cave in if I ever came to church."

Blankets will be given to those who think the church is too cold, and fans for those who say it is too hot. Scorecards will be available for those who wish to list the hypocrites present.

Relatives and friends will be in attendance for those who can't go to church and cook dinner, too. We will distribute "Stamp Out Stewardship" buttons for those that feel the church is always asking for money.

One section will be devoted to trees and grass for those who like to seek God in nature. Doctors and nurses will be in attendance for those who plan to be sick on Sunday.

The sanctuary will be decorated with both Christmas poinsettias and Easter lilies for those who never have seen the church without them. We will provide hearing aids for those who can't hear the preacher and cotton wool for those who think he's too loud!

Three things in life that you should never lose....

1. Hope

2. Peace

3. Honesty.

Hello all

Aww, loving your post Vera. Thank you.

Wide, wide as the ocean is very special to me.

I taught this at Sunday school when my special friend Margaret was in charge.
Sadly, Margaret lost her fight against the dreaded big C, all those years ago and she has left so many lovely memories for all who knew this special Christian lady

Thoughts now for all who taught in Sunday schools very many years ago. xxxx.

I have been looking back over the last few days' postings and came across Kandj's post with the words of the Fishers of Men chorus which brought back some memories. When we were in Sunday School my friends and I used to think it was hilarious to sing "I will make you vicious old men". Although we were a bit naughty with the words of some of the songs, we did enjoy it when our leader said it was time for choruses. A particular favourite, with all the actions, was:

Wide, wide as the ocean
High as the heaven above
Deep, deep as the deepest sea
Is my Saviour's love.
I, though so unworthy,
Still am a child of his care
For his word teaches me
That his love reaches me
Everywhere.

The humour continues........ :-D

Three vicars were discussing the best positions for prayer while a telephone repairman worked nearby.

"Kneeling is definitely best," claimed one. "No," another contended. "I get the best results standing with my hands outstretched to Heaven."

"You're both wrong," the third insisted. "The most effective prayer position is lying prostrate, face down on the floor."

The repairman could contain himself no longer. "Hey, fellas, " he interrupted, "the best prayin' I ever did was hangin' upside down from a telephone pole!
