Happy New Year to you all.

Let us hope that 2021 is a much better year for all of us than 2020, and that we get this virus beaten back so we can begin to live more normal lives.

Hello all

Grateful thanks for another years posting Cynthia.

Good to know that your foot is getting better Vera.

New Year's Day and this poem is fitting;-

I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year
"Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown." and he replied:-
"Go out into the darkness and put your hand into
the hand of God. That shall be better to you than light, and safer than a known way."
(Written by Minnie Louise Haskins).

Happy and a Healthy New Year to you all.

Thank you for the smiles Cynthia, just what I need this week as for various family reasons we are not going through a very happy time right now.

It was kind of you to ask after my foot kandj. I am walking around fairly normally now though I can still only manage a short walk outside and it still gives me some pain, but I am getting there.

It’s been a difficult year but I am thankful for its many blessings and I wish you all a new year full of peace and contentment

We have snow - not too much - but enough. It may now go away!! :-D

Things always seem a bit flat between Christmas and New Year. Maybe some Christmas cheer is in order for a couple of days so, cracker jokes, here we come…..feel free to groan!

Father, at this special time of the year when we remember that first Christmas day when Your dearly beloved Son came as a new-born baby, we pray that His love and His peace may be felt in the hearts and minds of many lost and hurting people, those who feel unloved and those who lack that vital peace with God. Amen.

Amen to your prayer Cynthia.

How lovely to see snowdrops already Kandj. I noticed the hellebores in the garden are full of fat buds looking nearly ready to open. I love the very early spring flowers. They seem to bring so much hope and promise for the future and we could all do with that right now.

Today isThe Feast of the Holy Innocents, a Christian feast in remembrance of the massacre of young male children under 2 years of age in Bethlehem by King Herod the Great in his attempt to find and kill the infant Jesus

Righteous God,
your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ dwelt among us
and shared our grief and our pain.
We pray for the children of our world,
that they may grow up knowing love and security.

We pray for all children who suffer physical or mental abuse.
We pray for all communities in our world
who live with the memories of massacre and gross cruelty.

We pray for all who are corrupted by power
and who regard human life as cheap.
We pray for parents who have suffered the death of a child.
We pray for parents and guardians,
that they may be given grace to care for the children entrusted to them.

As we celebrate the coming of the Christ-child,
we rejoice in the fellowship of the Holy Innocents
and commit the children of this community,
our nation and our world to you,
our righteous God. Amen.

Hello all

The last Sunday service of the year today. I spotted a tiny bunch of snowdrops near to the church porch. A beautiful sight and really helped to lift my spirits.

Keep well and stay safe everyone.

Good morning :-D

Collect (special prayer) for The First Sunday of Christmas

Almighty God,
who wonderfully created us in your own image
and yet more wonderfully restored us
through your Son Jesus Christ:
grant that, as he came to share in our humanity,
so we may share the life of his divinity;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Gospel
Luke 2:15-21
And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Good morning :-D

Hopefully, everyone has had as good a Christmas as we can, given the circumstances. Today, is a 'buy one get one free' day as it is both Boxing Day and St. Stephen's Day........??

A reminder.......Boxing Day got its name when Queen Victoria was on the throne in the 1800s and has nothing to do with the sport of boxing.
The name comes from a time when the rich used to box up gifts to give to the poor.
Boxing Day was traditionally a day off for servants, and the day when they received a special Christmas box from their masters. The servants would also go home on Boxing Day to give Christmas boxes to their families.

Churches also played a part in the creation of Boxing Day. Many of them stored the collection money in a box, which they opened on Christmas Day. The money was then handed out to the poor the next day - on Boxing Day.

December 26 also commemorates the life of St. Stephen, a Christian deacon in Jerusalem who was known for his service to the poor and his status as the first Christian martyr. He was stoned to death in around AD 36 because of his faith in Jesus.

Enjoy a restful day. Love to all Cx :-)

For unto us a child is born,

Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.

I have loved this year’s advent calendar Cynthia. Thank you for putting it up.

Thinking of all who are sick, poor or lonely this Christmas and for those who will be working instead of being at home with their families. My granddaughter will be working the night shift at the dementia care home on Christmas Day.

I am unlikely to come on line tomorrow but I wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas. God bless.
