Oh dear it's not looking good for Webb and Halfpenny. Fingers crossed that the scan reports will be good so that the two of them will be fit and well enough to play in the next match. I hadn't realized that these games were "friendlies" Radio Jem...... tonight match with France v Scotland didn't look to be very friendly to me???

Goodnight Pat..... we should all sleep well tonight after our rugby efforts.

Remember the brave Lizzie Jones, young widow of international Welsh player Danny Jones who died on the pitch at a rugby match in May of an undetected heart condition?
Lizzie, a professional singer asked to be allowed to open the Rugby Challenge match at Wembley last Saturday and gave me goosebumps and had many including me in tears as she sang Abide With Me in front of thousands of fans.

I have just read that Lizzie is to release this favourite hymn as a single. Google this event and see for yourself just what a beautiful singer and brave widow Lizzie is.

JemimaFawr Report 6 Sep 2015 18:55

A SAD END TO THE WORLD CUP WARM-UP GAMES FOR WALES!! :-(

Two of our key players were stretchered off in agony, after both sustaining knee injuries, when Wales played Italy yesterday afternoon.

FIRST, SCRUM-HALF RHYS WEBB
had an horrendous accident, when his leg became trapped, and then was buckled under the weight of other players.

When you consider the sheer size and weight of most of these players, the pain must have been unbearable!

In fact, Rhys' scream was picked up on referee George Clancy's microphone.
Both his ankle and his knee were injured.

He was taken to hospital for scans, and is still on morphine, for the pain.

There is now a question mark hanging over Rhys' future for the 2015 World Cup, as it is feared that Rhys has sustained serious ligament damage :-( :-(

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/rugby-world-cup-2015-rhys-9999194

So......
WILL WE BE SEEING THE RETURN OF OUR OLD FRIEND MIKE PHILLIPS?!

Mike, until very recently, was Wales' First Choice Scrum-Half.
Rhys Webb's ascendancy took the crown from our Mike!
Such are Rhys' skills, that he was chosen "WELSH PLAYER OF THE YEAR"!

Mike Phillips sank to fourth choice, when GARETH DAVIES and LLOYD WILLIAMS were also chosen ahead of him, and Mike was sent back to his club.

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/mike-phillips-ready-answer-wales-9885041

THE SECOND BLOW..... LEIGH HALFPENNY :-( :-( :-(

About 10 minutes before the end of the game,Wales' Full Back and Phenomenal Kicker- my little Leigh Halfpenny- slipped and badly TWISTED HIS RIGHT KNEE! :-(
He, too, had to be stretchered off having been given oxygen for the pain.

When you consider how important a Right Knee is to a Rugby Kicker, then you realise how worrying this injury is!

Again, Leigh's future in the Rugby World Cup 2015 is in question! :-(

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/leigh-halfpenny-world-cup-injury-9999450

Wales has already lost Flanker JONATHAN DAVIES to a knee injury this year.

LIAM WILLIAMS has also been struggling with injury and has not played in the Warm-Up games, although chosen for the World Cup Squad.

Liam's natural position is Full Back, but he plays Winger in the Wales Team, because of Leigh being First Choice Full Back Player.

IT'S NOT LOOKING GOOD ALL IN ALL :-( :-( :-(

Jem and The Rugby Gang on Radio Jem ;-) wish our lovely injured boys<3 a speedy recovery :-)
We are hoping that these injuries are not as bad as we fear :-)

RHYS <3 LEIGH <3

kandj Report 6 Sep 2015 22:43

Oh dear let's keep our fingers crossed that both important players will be well enough for the game. I'm sure they will be wishing to be fit enough too, and will be so disappointed if they have to be taken out of the selection.

JemimaFawr

JemimaFawr Report 7 Sep 2015 22:47

OUR WORST FEARS HAVE BEEN REALISED! :-( :-( :-(

LEIGH HALFPENNY IS OUT OF THE WORLD CUP :-( :-( :-(

My little Leigh Halfpenny <3 Wales' First Choice Kicker and Full-Back has been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup 2015.

Leigh slipped and wrenched his already strapped up right knee, toward the end of the Wales v Italy Warm-Up Game, last Saturday.

HE HAS RUPTURED ANTERIOR CRUCIATE KNEE LIGAMENTS.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/34179304

TO SAY I AM GUTTED IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT!

I am gutted for myself as a huge fan of Leigh :-(

I am gutted for Leigh's fans :-(

I am gutted for the Wales Team :-(

I am gutted for Wales:-(

I am gutted for Leigh's family and friends :-(

BUT MOST OF ALL........ I AM GUTTED FOR LEIGH! :-( :-( :-(

He must be devastated poor boy!

This is the boy that works so very hard!
When all the other boys have trained and gone, Leigh stays out for hours perfecting his kicking skills.

This is the boy, that although small in stature by Rugby Player standards, is HUGE in HEART.

This is the boy who has said...
THAT HE WOULD PLAY IN THE FRONT ROW (of the scrum, where all the big burly men are!) .....
........IF IT MEANT HE COULD WEAR A WALES SHIRT!

You only have to watch him as he belts out the Welsh Anthem with tears rolling down his face, to know how much playing for Wales means to him.

THE WHOLE OF WALES ARE IN SHOCK!

ALL OF US ON RADIO JEM (This Thread) SEND OUR SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO LEIGH. <3 <3

We are yet to hear the outcome of the other shocking incident...
.... THE HORRIFIC INJURY TO SCRUM-HALF RHYS WEBB. <3

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/leigh-halfpenny-rhys-webb-injury-10002414

We all send our best wishes to Rhys too, and hope for a more favourable outcome :-)

JemimaFawr Report 8 Sep 2015 11:55

MORE BAD NEWS!

RHYS WEBB IS ALSO RULED OF OF THE WORLD CUP! :-( :-( :-(

26 Year old Rhys Webb, Wales' First Choice Scrum-Half (Number 9), sustained serious injuries during the Wales v Italy Warm-Up Match last Saturday.

His leg became trapped in the breakdown, and it was buckled with the weight of the other players. He badly injured both his ankle and knee.
He was eventually stretchered off the pitch in agony and spent the night in hospital.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/34183785

This was the first incident in a very bad day for Wales.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/international/71871571/double-blow-for-wales-as-halfback-rhys-webb-ruled-out-of-world-cup

Later in the match, Kicker and Full-Back (15) Leigh Halfpenny also sustained a serious knee injury. He too was stretchered off and is now out of the World Cup.
See last post.

WALES FORMER FIRST CHOICE SCRUM-HALF MIKE PHILLIPS HAS BEEN RECALLED TO THE SQUAD!

ALSO CALLED FOR WALES DUTY.... ELI WALKER

I am so very disappointed for Rhys and Leigh, two exceptionally talented players who have trained so hard for this World Cup!

Jem and all the Rugby Gang on "Radio Jem ;-)" wish Rhys and Leigh a speedy recovery.
WE WILL MISS YOU BOTH <3 <3

Rugby World Cup Trivia
Interesting facts and figures about the Rugby World Cup.
Before the first Rugby World Cup in 1987, the USA was technically the reigning international champion because they had won the gold medal at the 1924 Summer Olympics rugby tournament.

The World Cup winners are awarded the William Webb Ellis Cup - William Webb Ellis was the Rugby School pupil who, according to popular myth, invented the game.

The first Rugby World Cup in 1987 held no qualifying tournament. All the members of the IFRB were automatically included, the remaining positions were filled by invitation.

Australia (1991, 1999), South Africa (1995, 2007) and New Zealand (1987, 2011) have each won the Rugby World Cup twice.

The only nations to host and win a tournament are New Zealand (1987, 2011) and South Africa (1995)

The 2003 Rugby World Cup had a global cumulative audience of 3.5 billion, and was broadcast in 205 countries around the world.
No doubt the latest event was even bigger.

The most points that have ever been scored against a team at a World Cup is 145 by New Zealand in a match against Japan in 1995. New Zealand scored 21 tries in that match.

The widest winning margin in a World Cup match is 142, achieved by Australia against Namibia in 2003.

England prop Jason Leonard made a record 22 appearances, and featured in four World Cups from 1991 to 2003.

New Zealander Michael Jones scored the opening try of the match at both the 1987 and 1991 Rugby World Cups.

Eden Park in Auckland (1987 and 2011) and Twickenham Stadium in London (1991 and 2015) have hosted the Rugby World Cup Final twice.

Rugby World Cup Firsts.
The FIRST World Cup was held in 1987 in Australia and New Zealand.

The FIRST winner of the World Cup was New Zealand in 1987.

The FIRST player to be sent off (red carded) was Welsh lock Huw Richards, while playing against New Zealand in 1987.

The FIRST World Cup to be held in a single country was the 1995 World Cup hosted by South Africa.

The FIRST country to win the World Cup twice was Australia in 1999.

The FIRST non-southern hemisphere country to win the world cup was England in 2003.

Rugby World Cup History ,The World Cup idea is born
In June 1983 Australia proposed a World Cup and put itself as host, and the following year New Zealand put forward its case. In a major breakthrough, The International Rugby Board instigated a World Cup feasibility study, with Australia and New Zealand forming a joint working committee and the study began in December 1984.

At a meeting in Paris on 20-21 March 1985, the International Rugby Board held a vote on the concept. It was no secret that England, Scotland, Ireland & Wales were opposed to the idea, with Australia, New Zealand & France in favor. South Africa's crucial vote went in favor of the event, then when England and Wales changed their mind and voted in favor the World Cup finally had the go ahead.

More to come folks, hope this posts.
