Well Gloucester is ready for the first World Cup match (Tonga V Georgia). All the cross streets are decked with flags and all look very bright and cheerful. Down the docks there is a large Fanzone all decked out with artificial turf, a grandstand, beer tent, food stalls and a huge screen. Free on a first come first served basis.
In front of the Mariners chapel is a large area for people to try various sports (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult). We were down there today and I spotted a Crazy golf course but don't know what else is there.
In the centre in Kings Square during the World Cup at different times/days there are various things going on to connect with the different nationalities. I can remember Lindyhop and Argentinian Tango but there are others.
So for once Gloucester had really gone to town on this. :-)

Ooh I can't believe I am actually posting on the rugby thread!! :-D :-D

ANOTHER INJURY FORCES A WALES SQUAD CHANGE!

With just 5 days to go until Wales' first World Cup Game on Sunday, Wales has been forced to make another change to their squad!

THIS TIME IT'S ELI WALKER WHO IS INJURED OUT!

Eli, originally part of Wales' World Cup Training Squad, was let go in the "cull" to reduce the squad to the final 31 players.

He was drafted back in following the injury to LEIGH HALFPENNY, which ruled Leigh out of the World Cup,

Now, Ospreys Winger Eli has also been forced to withdraw following a hamstring injury.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/34251954

Instead of replacing Eli with another Winger, the Wales Coaching Team have decided to re-call Flanker ROSS MORIARTY.

Ross, who also was part of the Wales Training Squad, was not included in the final 31. He played in Wales' Warm-Up game against Italy, coming on as a replacement and he played exceptionally well.

RADIO JEM WISHES ELI WALKER A SPEEDY RECOVERY :-)

All the best to Ross Moriarty for a great Rugby World Cup 2015 :-)

Morning Radio Jem, Pat and Kandj :-)

Rugby World Cup Trivia
Interesting facts and figures about the Rugby World Cup.
Before the first Rugby World Cup in 1987, the USA was technically the reigning international champion because they had won the gold medal at the 1924 Summer Olympics rugby tournament.

The World Cup winners are awarded the William Webb Ellis Cup - William Webb Ellis was the Rugby School pupil who, according to popular myth, invented the game.

The first Rugby World Cup in 1987 held no qualifying tournament. All the members of the IFRB were automatically included, the remaining positions were filled by invitation.

Australia (1991, 1999), South Africa (1995, 2007) and New Zealand (1987, 2011) have each won the Rugby World Cup twice.

The only nations to host and win a tournament are New Zealand (1987, 2011) and South Africa (1995)

The 2003 Rugby World Cup had a global cumulative audience of 3.5 billion, and was broadcast in 205 countries around the world.
No doubt the latest event was even bigger.

The most points that have ever been scored against a team at a World Cup is 145 by New Zealand in a match against Japan in 1995. New Zealand scored 21 tries in that match.

The widest winning margin in a World Cup match is 142, achieved by Australia against Namibia in 2003.

England prop Jason Leonard made a record 22 appearances, and featured in four World Cups from 1991 to 2003.

New Zealander Michael Jones scored the opening try of the match at both the 1987 and 1991 Rugby World Cups.

Eden Park in Auckland (1987 and 2011) and Twickenham Stadium in London (1991 and 2015) have hosted the Rugby World Cup Final twice.

Rugby World Cup Firsts.
The FIRST World Cup was held in 1987 in Australia and New Zealand.

The FIRST winner of the World Cup was New Zealand in 1987.

The FIRST player to be sent off (red carded) was Welsh lock Huw Richards, while playing against New Zealand in 1987.

The FIRST World Cup to be held in a single country was the 1995 World Cup hosted by South Africa.

The FIRST country to win the World Cup twice was Australia in 1999.

The FIRST non-southern hemisphere country to win the world cup was England in 2003.

Rugby World Cup History ,The World Cup idea is born
In June 1983 Australia proposed a World Cup and put itself as host, and the following year New Zealand put forward its case. In a major breakthrough, The International Rugby Board instigated a World Cup feasibility study, with Australia and New Zealand forming a joint working committee and the study began in December 1984.

At a meeting in Paris on 20-21 March 1985, the International Rugby Board held a vote on the concept. It was no secret that England, Scotland, Ireland & Wales were opposed to the idea, with Australia, New Zealand & France in favor. South Africa's crucial vote went in favor of the event, then when England and Wales changed their mind and voted in favor the World Cup finally had the go ahead.

More to come folks, hope this posts.

MORE BAD NEWS!

RHYS WEBB IS ALSO RULED OF OF THE WORLD CUP! :-( :-( :-(

26 Year old Rhys Webb, Wales' First Choice Scrum-Half (Number 9), sustained serious injuries during the Wales v Italy Warm-Up Match last Saturday.

His leg became trapped in the breakdown, and it was buckled with the weight of the other players. He badly injured both his ankle and knee.
He was eventually stretchered off the pitch in agony and spent the night in hospital.
