Maggie, with the most recent event I don't know which broke my heart more, the cost of the beer or the fact that I couldn't finish it :-D :-D :-D

Probably a double whammy! :-0

My 'driver' was served with a half pint of Guinness - that was half froth!!!
'Driver' refused it - barman said 'it will settle', which is when, I pointed out, at a quarter of a pint, and we walked out. :-|
I can't understand why English pubs stop serving dark ales/porter in Summer.
They still sell black coffee.

IF you have any of the old pounds then the RBL poppy sellers would take them...

Speaking of the end of the world, a couple of things have happened recently that portend that event, and which have been so traumatic that I am only now able to put them on paper (not on loo paper though) :-D :-D

A couple of weeks ago OH and I attended a seminar regarding River cruises in Europe. This was held in a hotel in the centre of Bunbury.

A few days earlier, OH had been out for a birthday dinner with my daughter to another hotel in the town centre. For some reason I didn't go with them.

On her return OH said that renovations had been carried out, and that I would not like the result.

So, having attended the seminar, and my curiosity having been piqued we went to the newly renovated hotel with the intention of having a drink, and possibly a meal.

Walked in, took one look and walked straight out again. What had once been the most elegant hotel in the town had been turned into a 'trendy' pub with absolutely no character :-| :-| :-|

I have never before entered a pub/hotel without having a drink

The second event was a couple of days ago, when we went to another newly renovated pub. Ordered the drinks; OH was driving so I had a pint of a craft beer called 'Wild Yak'

On a recent trip to Fremantle I was introduce to this beer which has a wondrous 'hoppy' fragrance to it. This was reinforced at another local pub when we went for a meal on my birthday last March.

Back to the present. I took one sip and was nearly sick. Whatever the vile brew in the glass was it certainly wasn't what I was expecting. I suppose that in keeping with the 'Yak' range of beer it could have been heavily carbonated "Yak P**s'.

I couldn't finish it!! :-| :-| :-| :-( :-(

We'd spent $17.00 on a pint and a half of beer which we couldn't drink. :-| :-|

The whole saga of the 'renovated' hotels/pubs is for another post.

I'm still too traumatised to think about it at the moment :-D :-D

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 11 Oct 2017 15:14

That has definitely become bland, Dermott - there's been quite a few 'end-of-the-world' predictions lately.

...and I STILL haven't washed my kitchen floor :-(

....I can't see the point, if the end of the world is due....
