Our Drs surgery have started using PAs to see patients instead of the patients seeing the GP. Quite q few of us at the surgery are annoyed by this as had booked a GP app. ( well thought we had) but no it was with a PA but the staff didn't tell anyone. Looking up what a PA is I read that they shouldn't make appointments without the patients knowledge and consent . They can prescribe meds but then have to have the prescription signed by the GP. before it can be issued . Apparently they have 2 years training to do this where a GP has 10years but according to the receptionist they are the same as a GP.
Anyone else had this at their surgery.? How would you feel about it?

Hope you are all enjoying some sunshine. We had a real downpour early this morning but the sun arrived soon after but at least the plants got watered.

I have just looked at Lightningmaps.org and can see some strikes around Oxford area etc. Don't think we are going to get any thunderstorms up here are not hot enough!

Yesterday afternoon we took the girls to a local wildlife park. They enjoyed it and it helped their parents who are both working from home. OH came, so that was nice.

We had a lot if rain during the night, but the sun was back by late morning. My old next door neighbour came to see me this morning. so after a good natter here, we walked along the riverside into town. That took an hour, the last bit is very steep and it was so hot that it wasn’t fun. We had a very nice lunch in town, then walked back via the road which is only twenty minutes. It is very hot and humid, so,I am very tired

Tomorrow I am taking Esme’s to Lightwater Valley in my own, so that is going to be another hard day

I have been for my eye assessment for cataracts and all went well. Hopefully get to see the surgeon next month, so progress at last.

Lovely sunny but breezy day here but at least no midges yay for that!

Not long home so lunch, a cuppa and then see what's to be done.

Yes I do but dad has a "museum piece "of a phone that isn't a smart phone and his landline isn't working properly so I cant phone him.

Can do a WhatssApp call but the signal isn't great and often drops call in middle of a sentence!

So much for technology eh!

Florence do you use WhatsApp? It uses internet rather than phone signal, so I would imagine that will still work. Unless anybody tells me I'm wrong, as I'm not 100% sure

Have just found out that Vodaphone is down until 8pm 1st August!!
Its for essential maintenance apparently but why couldn't they have sent a text message in advance advising us of this???

Just realised why i havent had a single text message from my daughter who is in town. No mobile signal since this morning!!

Thank heavens we still have a landline!

Good to see you posting Sylvia but sorry to hear of your problems with hubby.
Am I right in thinking you will both be in the same place eventually just not in the same suite? If so at least that way, you can be together during most of the day and if you go out you can be assured he is being watched so cant wander off outside.

I had an unexpected tel call today which lifted my spirits. It was from the Eye clinic in the hospital. The secretary rang me to say could i come at 10.30 on Thursday this week as they had a cancellation. I said yes immediately as I have been waiting since January.

After a 40 minute wait in a queue for patient travel, I got through and that's all booked for them to pick me up after 8am. She said this is for a pre clinic assessment and takes 30 minutes. I then will get a follow appointment with the consultant at some stage! if he feels its only routine cataract surgery I need(non urgent) it will likely to be next Spring before I get it!!! Urgent surgery could be by the end of the year!

At least its a step in the right direction.

Dry day here but still very windy and not that warm.

The phone calls I have had today have taken a large chunk of my time up and so my plans have all gone to wry. never mind the chores can wait now until tomorrow as too late in the day to start now.

Off to make coffee

It is good to see you Sylvia. I am so sorry that you are going to have to be parted from your husband. Once you are both in the new place, you will be able to go and spend time with him during the day, but it will be very difficult for him at first having to go into a temporary home. I suppose that it will be too difficult for you to visit him all the time in the temporary accommodation, hopefully by the time you are settled in your new home it won’t be too long before a room becomes available for him.

It is another very hot day here, we are just waiting for the carpet fitters to arrive to put in the last lot of carpets. We had to leave a wardrobe in one of the bedrooms because I just couldn’t move it despite taking the doors off and the shelves out. We had to move the double bed from one room into our bedroom this morning and moving the mattress just about finished me off

Good morning all. a bit cooler this morning than it was over night when I got up for the loo (17 degrees) it is now 15 degrees and cloudy. Hairdresser at 12noon so hoping that is not the time it decides we get the much needed shower.

Good to see you sylvia. This is a very hard time for you, hard because you and your OH have been together for a long time and now you are to be parted. And knowing that he will be aware of what is happening makes it even harder for you. But it is good (and so much better than a similar circumstance would be here) that things appear to be sorted for you both with nice places to move to I don't think that you have said but is the new place for you in the area where you are now so that you will still be near friends etc?

Hopefully things are moving forward now and it won't be too long before you are settled. Is your new suite nice as well. Your OH's sounds very convenient and you will have the comfort of knowing he is safe and cared for. <3

Hi everyone

I'm sorry I haven't posted for so long, but it has been so hot that evenings have been the only time it has been cooler and comfortable enough for me to be on the computer, and that is with a fan blowing on to my back! But then I have been so tired the last couple of weeks that I have hardly been able to put 2 words together and make sense!

Things are not too good. OH will not be coming to live with me, either here in the house or at the new place. The specialists checked him out carefully, and his cognitive changes are such that he will need more help and watching than I can give him.

He is on the wait list for the Multi Level Living floor at the same place where we have the new suite, but it will take time for a room to become vacant for him. So we have been thrown hurriedly in trying to find somewhere for him to live elsewhere. Not an ideal situation. But we have today organised a safe place for him to be, and a nice place (we hope!).

He will have a single room, (we call it a studio apartment) ..... it has a small kitchenette, a full bathroom with a shower, a large-ish area as bedroom and sitting area, and a quite small window-less room that could be furnished as a cozy den.

Most people in this place don't spend all their time in their rooms or suites, but in the various sitting areas around. The doors to the outside are locked and you have to be let out, but in addition they are going to give him something called a Wander alarm (I think that's the name).

He wears it all the time and it sends out a silent warning to all the aides (via their IPhones) that he is approaching an outside door. If he actually touches the door, an alarm sounds that he can hear.

It's hard, because he does understand and remember a lot, but it's the watching and the physical action that I can't do.

I know he's going to blame me for us being apart, but I'll just have to take that.

Meanwhile the house is chaotic, it seems that everywhere we turn there are more and more things that only I can sort out! Then I discovered this weekend that the guy who was given the job on their first day of pulling my books off shelves according to certain authors to keep or to check, and pack any authors not mentioned to go to "donation", didn't do it worth a darn.

Today has been lovely ................. it rained for the first since about June 28th, and it was only 17 or 18C. We desperately needed the rain but it is supposed to end overnight!

The Scottish government was planning to introduce a Pension Age Winter Heating Payment this winter, instead of the WFP.
I hope that won't be impacted by the Westminster decision.

Those pensioners on Pension Credit & other benefits will still get the winter fuel payments. Its pensioners who are not on any benefits that will lose the Fuel payments.

I guess its almost means tested after this announcement.

I get a small amount of unemployment benefit but yet I still have to pay full Council Tax!

It is baking hot here Florence, but nice and cool in the house, so that is fine. I think it will be a hot night for sleeping, a night to have the fan on I think.

I see the new chancellor has just taken away our winter fuel payments :-( That is just going to be the start of the tax rises for people like us. It makes you wonder why we have worked so hard to get a good standard of living. We both came from ordinary families, no silver spoons. We may as well, not have bothered and just lived off benefits grrr

Afternoon all

Well it was grass cutting day but the weather turned nasty around 11am but they have turned up and done the job even in the rain! looks nice & neat again. The 2 circles of clover grow so quickly. Why are there 2 circles? No idea lol

I looked up about my Escalonias and think maybe when they have flowered this year, they will need to go in to a much bigger tub. However as Andysmum pointed out, they are quite hardy and resistant to salt so should do well in this area. I would love to have a hedge all the way round the 3 fences but that's not allowed as the fences have to be accessible incase of repair. In anycase it would be very expensive and need a lot of plants as a huge area!

I shall wait & see how they grow over the next few months.

Gosh its blowing a gale here and my Rhododendron bush is moving! So its is stormy winds for sure.

I have been ordering bits & pieces for my polytunnel so when its ready, I shall have everything I need. I have new seed trays plus trays underneath, sticks, etc labelling sticks too.

I ordered 2 new silent night pillows and today they finally arrived as the first order got lost! Oh my they could have vacuum packed them into a small package like they do for duvets but instead, they came in the most enormous carboard box!! i have no use for it and cant store it so it will take some time to break it up to fit in the organic bin and even then, it will take up valuable space.

I know they are reducing plastic wastage but what about all the trees they are using to make the boxes?

AnninGloucs, you made me chuckle saying youre wearing a light top and shorts as here i need my waterproofs and wellies :-D :-D :-D

Joan good to see you. I think we all these days do our garden in 30 minute shifts. Sometimes I can keep going for an hour, depends on the jobs.

I am sitting here pre-packing/sorting in temps of 25 degrees in shorts and light top. And trying to work out what to pack for forecast temps up there of 16/17 degrees.. I guess shorts and sun top and maybe even crops won't be the order of the day. So difficult.
