That is ridiculous Joan and it will probably turn out to be a waste of time. Couldn’t you attend by ringing your husbands phone and putting it on speaker phone. That way you would be able to hear everything and they would be able to hear you and your daughter.

It is a sunny day here, but the highest temperature forecast is only going to be zero degrees. It is OH’s birthday, so we are going to walk into the market square and have lunch in a nice cafe. That will do for celebrations, pre Covid we would have gone away for a city break abroad, now we are just boring and sty at home. :-(

More snow for us at some point during the night, at least 3 inches in some parts of the garden but deeper in places where it has piled up, no idea what the house road/track looks like but the postie didn't get up to the house, my post was left at our daughters house.
The sun is shining but I can't see it shifting any of the snow any time soon.

Daughter & I have to go to the hospital today for a meeting !
It's a CASE meeting with nursing staff/doctor etc, & hubby, we tried to re schedule because of the weather conditions but we were told it couldn't be changed, & IF
we were unable to attend it would just go ahead without us !!!
Not an early appointment either, late afternoon !

I am livid & more than a little concerned that we might not get back up to the house road, it's uphill with a bend near the top & I have lost count of the many times over the years we have got stuck on the said bend even with just a covering of snow.

My daughter walked up the road yesterday & she said there was a good lot of snow on it, there must be more today after last nights lot & judging by the amount up against the porch door I can see us getting stuck on the road.
We shouldn't have to be going out in this weather but I can't not be there.

Sorry to ignore you Florence, but we must have posted at the same time.
Our snow stopped and there is non on the ground, it is just bitterly cold.
OH managed to sort out the desk, so we have swapped things over. He needs to do cable management to hide all the cables and the extension lead, but there is no point in doing that until we move. It is a shame because the old desk was a large beech table with a tray hidden underneath at the back to hold all the cables. I have just put the old desk on the local free Facebook site, no doubt it will go quickly. We also have three Beech cupboards in the study, but only have room for two in the new house, but my next door neigh is taking one to use in her garden office which she uses as a craft room. I had hoped that she would want the table as well, but sadly it is too big.

I am pleased that your hubby is better today and that your daughter is being more reasonable.
OH is building a new desk as the current one I the study is fr too big for the new house. It is a flat pack and he has put it together wrong a couple of times so far. It has a pullout keyboard tray and he has fitted the supports the wrong way round. The tray should just have clicked into place, but it wouldn’t slide in. He knew the supports were in wrong, but “ just to check” he pushed the tray in from the back of the desk. It clicked into place nicely, but now he can’t get it out to turn the supports round. I asked him why on earth,he had pushed it in the wrong way, but he just started muttering, so I have left him to it. Silly man

Afternoon everyone.

We had more snow last night but the roads are clear just now. Every now and then a snow shower comes on a biting wind so it bounces off the ground! Daughter managed to get a few things but not everything like comfort or any cheap fabric conditioned. If I wash the towels without softener, they dry hard and I hate that.

I made a pan of lentil and veggie soup. i grated the carrots and turnip/swede plus onions etc and its ready. Of course had to taste a bit and yes its scrummy which is more than can be said for the brown bread in the machine!!

I followed the recipe that is in the breadmakers instruction booklet and it just hasnt risen much and doesnt look right. This has happened before and I used the brown bread setting???

Anyway determined to have homemade bread, so I found a very easy recipe on the internet and you don't have to knead it yay.... Its proving in the boiler cupboard as nice and warm in there for an hour. Then you give a quick mix before putting in your bread bin. 15 minutes more of proving, then bake for an hour. Im so hoping this one works. :-)

Sometimes, the best things work using good old fashioned hands and not machines :-D

Glad you have power Joan and no more snow. Glad you spoke with hubby. His phone might have been low on battery or something? A blood transfusion will give him a good boost along with the meds. Glad you daughter has calmed down a bit as being overbearing and bossy will not help the situation.

I opened the back door and we had snow against it oo but I managed throw some bird seed out over the snow covered grass and suddenly they were crowds fighting over the seed :-D But the pigeons rule here all 24 of them.

Daughter is on her way home now and should be back around 2.45 and will be glad as the bins have been emptied but are standing on the drive and its quite windy. I cannot go out as far to slippy for me with a stick.

Linda, hope your snow doesnt come to much! Hubby will be missing his walk.

Names, i weighed myself today and have lost 2lbs :-D but i need to lose 2 stone :-D :-D :-D

Right off to be busy and clear up the kitchen now before another mess is made!!

Hi Linda.
It's hubbys mobile number, I managed to get through after about an hour, he seemed fine, more with it today so can only think the AB for his infection are working.
He is having his transfusion today, 2 lots, which will take about 6 hours, I am assuming his temp must be back to normal as they won't usually do a transfusion if's up !.

Our daughter has just left me, she was very pleasant & not over powering like the last time we spoke, lol, she is a good lass really but can be bossy & thinks she knows what's best !

I spoke too soon, it is now snowing, but just lightly, so I don’t think it will settle.

How frustrating for you not being able to get through to your hubby. Is it a specific number for him, or the general one for the ward? Maybe you can find a different number for the main switchboard, that way you would know if the whole hospital is affected

Still very cold here, no more snow after yesterdays lot thank goodness, not much in the way of sunshine but it is bright.

The bird feeders are empty but i can't get to them so I had to stand at the pback porch door & throw some bird food as close I cold get it to the feeders.
I didn't think I would manage to open the porch door as the snow was up against it, with a bit of a shove I got it open enough to get my arm out, lol.

I thought my cold water pipes had frozen when I checked them this morning, they started off a bit slow but fortunately the water was very soon running normally.

I have been trying to talk to hubby this morning but I keep getting a message saying my call couldn't be connected, no idea what that's all about, frustrating !

Well, it isn’t getting any warmer :-(. It must be cold because OH has decided not to go out for his usual walk. We don’t have any snow, it would probably feel warmer if we did.

Names....diet??? Well we wont starve but i have no goodies lol. I do have some jars and tins but have run out of frozen chicken breasts. If I have a large pack, I can make umpteen dishes. I have some haddock and smoked haddock fillets and quite a few potatoes plus peas, carrots etc. But I have no yoghurts or salad cream!

Yes Joan , make a list of anyone who can't get up to your house in bad weather. Oil delivery, postie, your daughter etc.All important people as well as a GP or ambulance!!

The power hasn't gone off anywhere around here today but i saw, Shetland and Orkney had some outages.

Joan make sure you have your torch handy so no more falls in the dark!

I thought that you would have snow, Joan and Florence. It is a pity about your groceries Florence, hopefully your daughter will be able to pick up some fresh food, but it sounds like you have a good stockpile so you won’t starve.

I have had quite a busy day so far. I went to Slimming World this morning and had put a pound on :-(
I then went to Aldi and Tesco’s. I have just been sending OH with a little shopping list while I was ill, so I had a bit of catching up to do. This afternoon I cleaned the bathrooms and did the dusting.
Now I am sitting down starting to look at kitchen catalogues and blind catalogues again. I am going round in circles, there are so many choices and they all look the same to me .

Joan, I was thinking of you when I saw the forecast. Try and keep a record of the snow fall and list any vehicles that can’t get through. Having proof of the difficulties should help.

Poor Florence, where you planning on a NewYear diet ;-)

Awful weather isn't it, a few minutes ago we had a heavy fall of snow so much that I couldn't see anything beyond the hedge at one side of the garden, complete white out & every time it snows the wind howls round the house !

I am making my tea just now, I thought I should make a start on it whilst the power is on. I am really hoping & paraying we don't lose it !

Afternoon all

Yes we have snow and the roads look awful. So much so that Tesco cancelled all the deliveries grrrrrr so no food tomorrow. No ferries anyway as the sea is rough.

When a shower comes, the wind blows the snow all over the place and round and round :-S It is really cold and have the heating on already. When Im sitting at the PC Joan like you, i have a wool shawl over me legs to keep warm.

So daughter may try and get to town on the bus tomorrow and see what she can buy in either supermarket and then get back asap. Its also bin day tomorrow eeeek!

The sun is out here too but it hasn't melted anything and very soon when the sun goes down, the road will be a skating rink. Some of the buses to other villages further south had to be cancelled this morning as the roads were terrible.

I put a shower cap over the vent in the kitchen and that has stopped the draught of the wind coming down so does feel a bit warmer in the kitchen now.

So no post or any other deliveries. All in all a day to stay indoors and keep warm.

Hi Linda, not very nice here.
We have a good lot of snow, the sun has been shining for most of the day but it hasn't touched the snow, it's very cold.
Every so often the snow starts coming down & the wind blows it sideways past the windows.

I have 2 jumpers on & a fleece top & whenever I sit down I have a fleece throw over my legs but still feeling a chill, even with the heating on.

I am really sorry that your husband is so ill Joan, hopefully they can treat it and get him stable again.

We went out for Sunday lunch to a very nice pub, but unfortunately it was dog friendly. I understand why they do it, as they need to get in every penny they can these days. Everything was fine at first, Esme was having a lovely time, but then a family came in with a dog and instead of putting it under the table, they let it sit in the aisle. To be fair, it was very docile and not causing any problems, but Esme is absolutely terrified of dogs. We had been there about twenty five minutes and our food was just about to come out, but we had to move, especially as a second dog came into the room. Poor Esme instantly had a tummy ache, head ache and was whinging to go home. The only other table which was big enough for the five of us was an isolated one near the door. So as people were coming in and out we were blasted with cold air. We managed to eat our meal, but she was just desperate to leave, so we went straight back without desert and had the Peppa Pig birthday cake she had chosen for grandad.

The last time we went out for Sunday lunch, we had the same problem with dogs, so I think in future we are going to have to stick with places which don’t allow dogs in, or at least have a non dog friendly room.

Just popped back on as the snow has stopped, electric is still on yay!!

Joan, sounds like your hubby may have a UTI as that can cause a temp and also make people disorientated and confused. Sadly if a catheter is being used, its very common for patients to get a Urine infection. Hopefully they will do some tests and get him on correct neds to clear it. Hope he does feel better soon.

But one thing is for sure, until he is stable, he won't be getting discharged anytime soon. He is in the right place for now and being looked after.

Yes I hope I will get my delivery too as my freezer and fridge are running down fast. We have been using up and now its very depleted although i have a good supply of rice, pasta and a few sauces. Just have no chicken breasts left and i dont eat any other meat!

Still I have plenty of cheese and a cauliflower and a few carrots so can make a veggie bake. Daughter forgot to bring home pizzas on Friday grrrr. We moan but we wont starve.

Heating going on now so we shall be toasty later when watching the tv. Call the midwife on tonight, that's one of my fav programmes.

I'm off to read my new book. Its by Richard Osman. The Thursday Murder Club. Its set in the south of England around Robertsbridge, an area I knew well.

Hi Florence, I do hope you get your Tesco delivery on time, as for the snow sorry butyou can keep it to yourself, I hate snow.

I wish I could have stayed outside for a bit longer than planting up 3 primroses, but it is rather cold the sun is out at thr moment giving us a very bright day, just no heat, lol.
I did notice a few buds on the newly planted Clematus plants as well, which really did surprise me as I didn't get them planted until about November early December.

I spoke to hubby this morning but he wasn't feeling too good, it would appear that he has an infection, & he is clearly feeling off it & has been sick.
Our daughter said when she spoke to him via video call yesterday he seemed confused & obviously not right, & managed to get hubby to use his buzzer so as to get his nurse go to him, then daughter told her she thought there was an issue with her dad acting strangely, the nurse did some observations etc getting back to daghter later on to say he had an infection !

When I spoke to him today he sounded unwell & very sleepy, he didn't want to talk & so I let him go, such a worry.

I hope all is well with you all, & the weather is not being too unkind, keep warm everyone.

Afternoon everyone.

Cold day here with sleety showers, def think the snow is coming later brrrr.Its also very windy and no ferries maybe until Tuesday!! That's the day my Tesco order is coming....hopefully.

My Amaryllis has fully bloomed and is a lovely shade of red, absolutely beautiful. The other plant pot with the 3 bulbs in my friend brought me after xmas has also bloomed and there are many little white flowers like mini dafs. I still have a carnation outside in bloom and leaves on 2 roses plants....bonkers.

Started writing up friends family tree yesterday and have made good progress. Really want to finish it by mid week and get it posted to her.

Linda, hope your sale will go as smoothly as is ours so far and happy packing!

Joan, glad you got outside into your garden. That's your happy place :-D Amazing isn't how the spring bulbs are already peeping through. I just love it when the garden springs back to life with colour after the winter although we are still in January and Winter!

Right heavy shower now and turning to snow so going to sign off and make a cuppa whilst i still can.
