Just got this message from Mary:

tell claire that the keypad locks are nothing short of a godsend. Just make sure they are shut tight, ours (we have 3) seem to need an extra tug when there are changes with the heat/cold, better in the summer here.
the high for the day is minus 6.

Lucky I found the correct thread after only three goes lol

MInd reader, me!

Off to eat my kippers, I forgot o.h. was coming home early tonight, like 8.30pm and he hates the smell, did them in the microwave and he will love me when he comes in lol

Yummy grub!

Hugs for you Mary, hope you are feeling better soon and are taking things easy. Very sorry to hear your sad news. Thinking of you xx
Hope Caz is feeling a bit better as well xx
And anyone else who is poorly xx
Carole thanks for the message on facebook, hope you are ok?
Fun and games here... P was off school yesterday, closed because of snow. V had the day off as well, no way I would have been able to get his wheelchair moving !!
School open today but no transport as he goes to a special school it's not close to home, I ended up taking him in and apparently only 30 children out of 100 turned up. Had to collect as well so that was 2 hours gone but glad of the time to myself.
Finally the engineer came today to fit the keypad locks to the doors so hopefully no more escape bids , madam thinks they are fab !!
Hope everyone is coping the weather and that Gail has had lots of lovely rain and that her flowers are growing btw Gail sounds lovely what you have done with your house with the decorating :)) Fancy a trip to the UK to give me some interior design tips !!
Lots of Love to all
if you are looking in Colin, we miss you xx

It's fine adding this here Ann but if Mary is struggling to use the computer she isn't going to read all the threads and knows which one is up for her already. I will try to pass on greetings but I can't remember everything and lots to do with others too.

She has had a good night's sleep with the splint helping to ease the pain, she said it was just in one side of the wrist now and not the hand. She is still having to prepare lunches for the children as it was pizza day but managed to buy a Gluten free one for quickness and GF pizza mix on offer so stocked up and will get Meg to help her make some for another day.
I hate to think of her driving around in such bad weather but needs must if Colleen is at work.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Today at 02:15 Request review

Just had a message from Mary, who has read the thread, and wants you to know how grateful she is for all your kind thoughts.
She is having a problem getting used to the splint as it stops her doing so much that we take for granted, fastening shoes and all sorts of personal things.

Also sadly an old friend has died suddenly after having a heart attack and being fitted with a pacemaker, she was doing well and suddenly relapsed and passed away. This has shocked and upset Mary so she is feeling very down at the moment.

Lots of love winging it's way to you, Mary, we are with you all the way.

I have the old model of dishwasher, ninety years old. He does get a real kick out of learning how to do something, don't we all? That is why I made him try things from the start. It can be much harder work than doing it for him and I do try out a lot of things with my left hand now before I ask him to try.
I could get his hearing aid batteries out one handed and he could not.It took ages to teach him the knack.

Sharron he of the left hand wheels probably just loves doing the washing, anything that makes me feel useful I love doing. Even if it means that I am the supervisor and the ideas person, gives me a real kick. I do all the washing up, makes me feel important. I turn the dishwasher on. ;00

I just feel like it is a breeze looking after the old man compared with what some of you are enduring.

Yes Liz,I do have something for occasions such as this,it is the television. He is a big boy now and I feel it is reasonable to expect him to adapt like the rest of us have to.As a special treat I will give him some washing to do today.Kindness incarnate eh?

Hi to Alison.

Liz I am paying for sitting for so long today, plus the child sitting behind me was so bored (to young for the movie) he entertained himself by kicking the back of my seat. Any sharp movement causes pain, so the sitting and the kicking have really hit today. And no his parents did not stop him, even when I asked. We could not move as place was fairly full, OH looked. Still enjoyed the day despite this.

Gail

Edit: have been popping pills all day and nothing worked. So, had a huge hot bath with a lavender bath bomb, and apart from smelling really nice, it has helped with pain and I am ready to sleep.

Nice smelling Gail

Hi Liz,

Nice to talk to you again. I wil lneed to be clearer I think. I don't need someone to stay with B, he is fine for a few hours, after that he tends to get panicky. That doesn't mean that I couldn't have a full day to myself, if need be I could (he'd take a medication he has that he only uses when he absolutely has too) but we do most things together anyway. The carers payment would make life easier though.

had to ahve a smile about your coment on the psychiatrist though. B doesn't reckon she does much for him but he needs to see he on a regular baisis to keep his pension. She has helped with afe issues though so I shouldn't bag her too much. I'm off now to make dinner before taking daughter to swimming club.

Hi Alison, whilst I am not tied to the house as much as you seem to be I do understand the need to get out and talk to other people and that's why this place is so useful. I have been stuck inside for several days now with the weather and lack of transport, o.h. is using the car as it is too cold and icy to cycle to work and he is on the late shift, and I daren't walk out on the icy road, no pavement here, in case I slip and hurt my head again as I did before Christmas.

I hope you get the carers allowance etc if it will make life a bit easier, maybe pay for someone to stay with B if necessary so you can have a carefree hour out of the house.
I hope B gets lots of help when he sees the psychiatrist but I have to say I have never found them helpful in my own situation, with my ocd. Maybe you will be luckier.

Take care and stay positive, come and talk to us when you can, it helps to offload things I find.

love
Lizxxx

Hello Everyone,

In case one or two of you had wondered I haven't disappeared of the face of the earth although sometimes it feels like it. I have been reading posts just not adding comments. My life is still much the same which is good in it's own way. B is not so good though. He has been telling me that he is feeling depressed, this has been happening a fair bit lately. We have a psychiatrists appointment in a coupld of weeks so will take that up with her.

Because B receives a disability pension, and I don't have a job I receive income support and of course look for work. I have a new Job Network consultant who wanted to know more details of my search for work and why my file said I was limited to what I can do in regard to distance and hours of work. I had to go through it al lagain and the result of that was that he told me to talk to a Centrelink social worker to see if I was eligible for a carer’s payment. I wasn’t so sure about hat but phoned them anyway and spoke to a social worker who thought I would qualify. I then had an appointment with a social worker face to face who listened while I went through it again and told me that I was eligible in her opinion for a carer’s allowance and a carer’s payment. So, I have filled in my part of the forms and when we visit the psychiatrist I will speak to her about it and ask her to fill in the medical form and we will go from there. Don’t know what will happen but should find out within about 5 or 6 weeks.

I don’t mind the waiting but it’s been a little bit frustrating over the Xmas holidays. Our daughter is out and about practically every day and I have been feeling the need to go out or go visiting and just talk to someone different. Poor B can’t do that and since I can’t be too far away it’s hard for me too. Still, I have been back at the pool this week and that has been great. I swim my twenty laps then have a break then do aqua aerobics and chat to the couple of older ladies there that I am friends with. It’s been really good and I have pretty much lost that feeling of being cooped up.

I hope everyone is doing well, thanks for listening,

Alison

I will put news of Mary on her thread, Positive thoughts for Maximary if you don't mind, I can't keep duplicating them.

Sharron, bless your Dad, he must have been Mr Grumpy never mind Mr Sulky. It was sensible to keep him in bed but must have been frustrated for him, is there something you can keep for times like this that will keep him occupied , as with the bad weather it's is inevitable it will happen again I expect. All respect to carers and all those who manage to get to folk who need them.

Gail, I like that track too and the whole cd is a nice one, isn't it? Have you heard the Soldiers one as well, it's very good. Your curtains sound lovely -what a nice room it will be when it all comes together.

The film you watch was partly filmed in Corfu I was told, but I am not sure how true that is. Apparently Mamma Mia was filmed there too but again I can't be 100% sure.

You will enjoy watching the film again when it comes on tv or maybe you could hire the dvd when it comes out. Most of the time I wait for tv to show films as I get too uncomfy sitting still for that long in those cinema seats and if I don't get the right position, my neck and shoulders are agony for ages afterwards.

Slumdog Millionaire is going to be on tv next week I think it is but I am not sure I can face watching it as there is some violence in it and I hate violence!

I watched The Perfect Storm on tv last evening with the gorgeous George Clooney and I was so upset at the ending, thought it would have a happier one! I hate sad endings lol

Take care everyone, and will report on everyone later who calls me.
Our Caz (see her special thread) called me last evening and sends her love to everyone, missing us all but too uncomfy to sit at the computer for the mo as she hurt her back, being stubborn and stripping and remaking the bed on Saturday instead of waiting for her sister to help her tomorrow as she usually does on Thursdays. She had told her not to bother last week with it being N.Y. Eve but then wished she had changed the linen so tried to do it herself and heard her back go. She says her sister will have a pop at her today when she comes round, I love that expression, have a pop at her, means get cross with her. I said she would have to look suitably chastened and apologetic but really it's poor Caz who is suffering anyway.

hugs to all

I will never never envy your snow, I hate the cold. OH was in Yorkshire during the last really big storms of snow, early 80's I think, they stories he tells about that are beyond my imagination. I will take the 40 c plus temperatures and bush fires over snow.

Really enjoying Susan Boyle CD, Really like "Who I Was Born To Be", I think that will become my anthem.

Sharron, how on earth are you going to keep him busy? You will just have to take the potatoes to him to peel in bed.

My battery can opener has fallen off its perch, so had to order a new one. Luckily OH is on holidays, so can open any cans for me.

Love and hugs

Oh disaster,One Hand and Wheels has had to stay in bed today!

As it is snowing the carers cannot guarantee to get to him this evening so, after the lunchtime ablutions, we decided it was wise for him to stay in bed rather than have us try to get him into it tonight.

The buses were not running either so the wonderful Ken could not come here to go out with him to play in the snow either. Mr Sulky today!

Gail, curtains and blinds sound lovely, it will look great when finished. Glad you enjoyed the movie and you will enjoy Susan Boyles CD as well I know.

Mary
So sorry to hear that you are having to wear splints, so inconvenient, however if it solves the problem and eases the pain it will be worth it in the long run. I hope that you will be able to return to us some time in the future. meanwhile keep reading.

I had a message from our MaxiMary to say the EMG showed up carpal tunnel syndrome so Mary has to wear a splint and rest lots. Therefore she won't be able to type and will be staying off the boards for the time being. I am sure she will find time to read the threads to keep up with things but won't be able to reply. If I get any messages I will pass them on.
I am sure we all wish her well and hope something can be done to help the problem

Carole are they letting your aunt go home???? Or is it into aged care??? bit of a worry to say the least.

Okay, movie was brilliant, but was not in 3D, If I could have sat for another 164 minutes I would have seen it again.

Managed to get curtains, so another thing done. Blinds are cream, curtains are cream lace inners and caramel outers, so carpet next.

Had a brilliant day out.

Love and hugs

Gail

PS: OH also got me Susan Boyle's CD, which I had been asking for since seeing her special on UK TV. Off to listen now.
