Joyce I don't know whether this is what Jan should be looking into. Do they have our equivalent of the Citizens advice bureau?

Exemptions to the residence requirement

The 5-year residence requirement may not apply where the applicant falls into any of the following categories:

* a person adopted after majority in the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao, or Sint Maarten by parents at least one of whom has Dutch nationality.
* married to or are the registered partner of a Dutch man or woman. If this is the case, the person can submit an application for naturalisation after 3 years of marriage or registered partnership and cohabitation. If the person has cohabited in the Netherlands with a Dutch man or woman (both partners unmarried) for an uninterrupted period of 3 years, an application may also be submitted. Note: this is true (in respect to marriage, partnership or cohabitation) if and only if in the last three years the applicant has continually lived together his/her partner inside the Netherlands. In case of marriage, it does not matter where this happened, i.e. inside and/or outside Dutch territories are both acceptable for married couples. As a rule of thumb, for each passed year, more than 6 months (per year) must have been spent under the same roof with that partner. [1] [2] There is an extra clause, namely that the couple/partners has/have to remain living under the same roof for as long as the request for naturalization is being researched.
* the 5-year term is reduced to a 3-year term if the applicant is stateless.
* the 5-year term is reduced to a 3-year term if the applicant as a minor is acknowledged or legitimised by a Dutch national and has been cared for and brought up by this Dutch national for a period of 3 years.
* the 5-year term is reduced to a 2-year term if the applicant has legally lived in the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao, or Sint Maarten for a period of 10 years, the last 2 of which uninterruptedly.

Sorry have been awol, been a difficult few days. Megan is finally improved, now 2 of the kids have flu, Sarah sees the neurologist again tomorrow as she is still seizing a couple of times a week, with no known trigger.
Thanks for all the caring expressed.
Y Caz, thinking of you, hope you are somewhat more comfortable, and Dutch thinking of you too, seems there is just one thing after another. Just know your friends care.
It's still icy here, the road is covered with a thick layer of ice, gradually melting thank goodness. I know spring is coming because the locals who set up ice huts (shelter while ice-fishing) on the frozen river each winter, removed them yesterday.
Oh for some daffodils to pop their heads through the snow.
I am a bit nervous as we have discovered mould in the basement, perhaps a clue to my chronic coughing. Busying myself with bleach . . . .
Off to bed, 'night all.

Hi Joyce, will text you this pm so we can chat if you are around then.
I can't see why you have to have the card, maybe Jan should call again and ask about it.

Test results ok from docs, so no medication necessary, just keep an eye on blood pressure and have another check next year or sooner if I feel there is a problem. Cholesterol and blood sugars all ok tho and ecg didn't flag up a problem but she couldn't see the results which is a bit daft.
I will get the nurse to double check on my file when I go next week for the asthma check up, couldn't get it done yesterday while I was there as the asthma nurse was busy.

Take care all, must get to bed now, it's actually getting light!

AnninGlos Report 16 Feb 2011 21:41

Good luck with that Ben

Joyce does that even apply when you are married to a dutch national? That doesn't seem right. Is there anybody that Jan can ask advice from about it?

Is it a residency permit Joyce? If so that only applies to members of Non EU countries.

Residence permit in the Netherlands – 08 April 2010

A residence permit is a card which proves that you are residing legally in the Netherlands. You are obliged to obtain a residence permit if you are a citizen of a non-EU/EEA country or Switzerland and you would like to stay in the Netherlands for a period of more than three months. A residence permit will generally be issued for a period of one year. Depending on the purpose of your stay, the validity may be for a longer or shorter period of time. If you are staying here for a longer period, you have to extend your residence permit before the expiring date. Furthermore, a change of purpose of stay in the Netherlands also means your residence permit has to be changed.

Hi Mary, hows is Megan now, has she accepted Rosies death better, I feel so sorry for children when their pets die, our spaniel died when mine were in the late teens and they still crept to their rooms to cry for her as did I. She was Debra of Rimaelia, Debby to us and as daft as a brush. Both her parents were show winners at crufts and we were told by the beeder she has all the best points for crufts but we didn't want to show her, we wanted a pet. I hope Megan and the others have got over the shock, fifteen years is a very long time, and I wish I could give you some special time just for yourself, you really are a wonderwoman.

Love Caz xx

Thanks so much Caz, our Rosie was quite a girl, her registered name was Llandians Sweet Rosie, initially a show dog then, after 4 litters, she was retired and became our pet for 10 years. Being Welsh I had always wanted a corgi.
Great memories of her gentle spirit.

YorkshireCaz Report 13 Feb 2011 17:10

Oh Mary I have just seen this, I am so sorry about Rosy, our pets are one of the family and we feel their loss the same. It's the little ones that feel it worst, at least Megan is talking again so maybe she will let her grief out by talking about Rosie. A big ((((((hug)))))) for you all.

Thank you all, I am almost back together this morning.minding Sarah and Gareth while Mummy is away at Grad school this weekend. Emlyn has a dance recital this after noon so she and MiniMary are waiting at school with Mum. Megan is finally talking again now, she does not cope well with emotional trauma. As I worked for 22 years with the elderly and therefore with the reality of death, I can better accept it than many others.
Well Carole I LOVE Curacao, but would really like to see the whole lot of us go to Disney. And of course I'd like to fly home. Oh the list goes on, one of these days. The logistics are scary.

Have a happy day all you wonderful friends, many thanks for your support.
Group hug,
Mary

Mary I'm so sorry to hear poor Rossie has passed away. I think what Liz has said sums up it all, if I'd seen your post first I would have said the same. And the poem is beautiful, you can just imagine one day meeting Rossie and her spotting you and running to greet you. I like Ann don't know where you keep finding the strength to cope with all that comes to you. When I win thebig lottery I'm going to send you on a relaxing break somewhere quiet xxx Where do you want to go?

Mary, I am so sorry, especially about the beloved dog. Yes, she was old, but it is always a wrench. The car is less important: they do not have personalities, really. Unless it is as cantankerous old so and so's.
With affection, Colin.

AnninGlos Report 13 Feb 2011 09:57

Poor Mary, you always have to be so strong for the others in your family. You must have some reservoir of great inner strength that you can draw on. I am so sorry to hear about Rosie. She lived to a good old age but that is no consolation to you and your family who loved her. The poem below might help the children and I am sure it will help you. Her'e a huge ((((((((((((((((((((((hug)))))))))))))))))))))) to share around and lots of thoughts and prayers that you and the children can come to terms with your loss.

I hope that the car isn't going to cost you too much, there is always something with a car isn't there. A necessary evil in your case.

Mary, I am so sorry about your poor Rosie, how sad that she has gone now as well as Mary's little dog. Maybe you can ease the children's pain and that of Megan's to say that Rosie went to look after the other dog.

Such a shame there is no one to comfort you in your loss and upset, you always have to be the one to help everyone else through sadness when, especially now, it's you needing the hugs and comfort. Hope the Stones helped a little and you will be able to rest and recover your strength for tomorrow's trials and tribulations. I really don't know how you keep going sometimes.

I do hope the van won't cost too much to be fixed, you really are having such a hard time of things. Wish I could come and help you but no luck on the lottery front again, and still can't find my magic carpet.

Many hugs my dear friend,

love
Lizxxx

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

It's been quite a day. For the third time in about 5t weeks,I am without my van. The engine light came on, the mechanic scanned it and reported that 3 things were triggering the light, don't dare drive it, you may get stuck. So here I am with a huge boat of a loaner car, but at least I was able to get home.
Came home, worrying how much more this wretched vehicle is going to coat, after a huge bill just before Christmas and a replkacement radiator last week. Now the engine. half an hour later my 15 y/o Pembrokeshire corgi died. Family are all upset, the kids loved Rosie, Megan has withdrawn and won't talk, she looks beaten and pale, miniMary became hysterical, and I kicked into nurse mode to keep an aura of calm (not!) around them all. When I finally sat down 5 hours later, the tears started. I am tired of being tired, tired of sadness, tired of keeping on keeping on.
OK moan over, going to pour myself a nice wee glass of Stones, and try and refocus on things positive.
Night all
Mary
