Gold finches are feerless little birds. This morning when i pulled the curtains open there were a lot of sparrows, two collard doves and three goldfinches on the feeders. All the sparrows and doves flew off when the curtains made them jump. The goldfinches turned their heads towards the window looked for a moment as if to say 'what is all the fuss about', then went back to eating. :-)

Ann, I not sure what I'm like, I have had several pills, I think it would be better if I could get hold of some magic mushrooms from the Bluff.
Good night Everybody.

This is for Shaun !!!

Hello Folkes.
I have not been on here for a while so thought I had better get my act together.
Well it's that time of the year our garden birds need a bit more fat in there diet so below I have listed the ingredients I use when making my bird puddings.
1Kg of porridge oats , 1 Kg wild Bird Food , 1Kg dried mixed fruit , 4 large packs of cheep lard and 2 nets of peanuts. Firstly empty the peanuts into a deep basin and break down into small chips with the end of a rolling pin. Put the porridge, fruit, wild bird food and peanuts into a dustbin liner and mix well.
Get a large deep pan , I use a jam kettle, and melt the lard down, once lard as melted take of the heat and add all the food from the dustbin liner .and also mix well. I forgot to mention before you start make sure you have plenty of containers at hand. I use 2 water containers, 8 x 8 inch foil trays, 8 plastic screw top ovaltine jars and 4 coconut shells . The foil trays are ideal for ground feeders and the others I use to hang up. The ovaltine jars are great I think, remove the outer wrapping, you will notice on the lid there is a mark in the centre, you will need to make a hole here so you can thread some string or wire through so you can hang it up. When you have filled the jar, firm it down well with the end of rolling pin put lid on and wait for it to set, once set get a stanley knife and make a window in the side 1 inch wide and 2 inches long, you can use these jars time after time.
When I have filled all my containers I put the lot in freezer until I need them
So there you have it and I have just BL~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ well realised I'm on the wrong thread SUGAR, SUGAR and SUGAR again, this was for Annin Glos and do the birds know.
YOU CAN ALL STOP LAUGHING, I CAN'T HELP IT IF I'M GOING FUNNY.
Well I cannot type all this out again HELP can someone copy and past it for me please to the `` Do The Birds Know`` thread.
I'm going to have a pill
Shaun

Not too much activity in our garden yet too warm so far I am guessing Linda xxx

Jude have you had any problems downloading your photos to your blog or my blogs? I often get the following message

We are sorry, but we were unable to complete your request.
The following errors were found: Input error: Memcache value is null for FormRestoration

which means I have to keep trying to download the photos, sometimes it takes 5 goes and is very frustrating. It happens on both blogs.

We had six goldfinches on the feeders this morning as well as the other usual visitors. We also had our first Greenfinch but it didn't stay long, just called in to check out provisions I think. Yesterday we had Chaffinches.

Hi Shaun, by all means send photos any time. animals and birds to Jude and interesting other photos to me.

It is a nasty wet, grey, miserable day here. I have walked round for the papers skidding along on the mushy leaves and now I am going to stay indoors in the dry. My other half will be in in a minute denying that he is cold and wet and saying he had a lovely morning :-D He has been playing golf!

Thanks Ann, didn't think of googling it. So it is a link to the Crusades.

What’s in a name?
It would be centuries before the first recognisable pubs opened. Religious houses ran the earliest true inns to cater for pilgrims and knights on their way to the Crusades in the Holy Land. Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, whose cellars are carved from the rocks beneath Nottingham Castle, is just such an example. Established in 1189, it claims the title of the oldest pub in England and was a stopover point for forces on their way to meet with Richard the Lionheart. Other signs on this theme are the Turk’s Head, Saracen’s Head and Lamb & Flag – the lamb representing Christ and the flag the sign of the crusaders.

Dolly's Chickens look lovely and much better than my next door neighbours :-S :-S I am never happy with the way they are looked after. :-| :-|
I did laugh this afternoon.A lump of suet had fallen out of the coconut shell for the birds ,and a little vole popped out of the rockery and dragged it backwards ,back into a gap in the rocks :-D :-D
