Another one who has never read 50 shades of grey. And who doesn't intend to. From reviews I have seen it is a badly written boring book. The author has made loads of money by writing a salacious book that has become popular, possibly with an increase in sales by people who read about it on the internet. Possibly people who never normally read. So is it a good thing that people who don't normally read are at least reading something????

I have read the "Dark Material" by Phillip Pullman. Think that I've given them to my eldest grandson.

As you say Jude, well worth reading again. I'll have to think about getting another set.

Has Tracie Andrews come out of prison or did I hear that she is now elligible (spl) for parole?

I think that there was something in the news about her a few months ago ... I just can't remember what. Perhaps I need to Google.

Hi Fellow Readers,
my, what a long thread. I think that I will reread a lot of it, so that I can check recommenations.

At the moment I am reading "The Sinapore Grip" by J.G. Farrell.

So far it has been a real eyeopener.

It starts in Singapore just before the Japanese invasion in the Second World War: the Blackett family's prosperous world of tennis parties, cocktails and deferential servants seems unchanging. But it is poised on the edge of the abyss.... This is the eve of the Fall of Singapore.....

I learnt of this book as it was suggested on Ann's GReaders Thread.

Haven't finished it yet, but would recommend it on what I have read so far.
