My grandfather was in the 2 nd Boar War and I saw his actual army record at KEW and was able to get a photocopy of it . His brothers record too which I wasn't aware of but as they were filed alphabetically his was with grandads

This was a few years ago before Ancestry and FMP had online records

Usually, what I've seen recorded is that he was with such & such a regt, and served in the boer war between these 2 dates.

If the guy later served in WW1, then this is included in his WW1 file, and 70% of these were destroyed by fire, but Ancestry (at least) has the surviving records, some of which are heavily charred (like my grandad's).

If he didn't serve in WW1, then the records were held separately. I've seen such records on FMP.

Death certs are also issued by the appropriate UK authority for Boer War deaths.

What is the name you are looking for and do you know where he came from?

The following is on Find My Past:

"Anglo-Boer War Records 1899-1902

Discover your ancestors who served in the Anglo-Boer War between 1899 and 1902.
