I am having great problems finding service records in general - no matter which website I am obviously doing something wrong I know the full names & dates of birth are correct

The people I am looking for were all in the services - I have photos to prove it and people who remembered them (all be it a long while ago) However i put the names in & dates of birth in the search fields nothing shows what so ever.

I also have one or 2 in the merchant navy and nothing on them either

I know one of them was in the Territorial’s at the start of world war 2 - would that make a big difference?

Out of the others 1 was military first world war - the 2 merchant seamen were 1st & 2nd world war one in each, one was Royal Navy 2nd world war and one was ATS - thats grandfathers, Parents & uncles.

I have checked on FMP & Ancestry and nothing shows no matter which section i click on Its as if none of them existed

What am I doing wrong

WW2 military records are still with the MOD which is why you can't find anything.

You may have to wait many months for them to arrive.

Over 70% of WW1 army records were destroyed during WW2 bombing. The medal cards have survived but tend only to give initials. Unless you know for certain which regiment a man served in, it's very difficult to identify the correct one.

If any of them died during the conflicts you might find a listing on http://www.cwgc.org/

Ancestry hold some WW1 pension records and for those killed, a list of Effects. Actually it was the sums owed which was sent to the nok.
There is also a seperate database for Silver War badges issued to the wounded.

If you dont have access to that site, any one of us who do would be happy to take a look.

None of the died in any conflict - So annoying when you read the magazines or see the info on TV & then find you have to pay for it

One day when I get some cash I will find out what they did
