Gritters are lorries that go around spreading a type of salty stuff on the roads to stop them being slippery - in theory.

But they only do the main roads.

The local council have large lorries laden with Salt and Grit that go out in the event of snow or ice, and they spread it over the road, via a spinning devised at the rear of their vehicle, hopefully to help us motorist drive more safely.
Some of then have a Snow plough on the front of them, lol you would have hear of a snow plough, but not seen one no doubt for many yrs.

Good six inches of snow outside and it's still snowing, so by this time tomorrow, we should be nicely isolated........... Don't get gritters on our lanes. Been out with the camcorder to take some footage for my 16 year old cousin in New South Wales. She is desperate to see snow, even though we keep telling her it's verrrry very cold here when it snows. Still, it does look pretty..............
