Muslims use the left for that and the right for eating with the hand from a communal bowl.Punishment for theft is to cut of the right hand so the criminal can never eat in company again as it would be unthinkable to use the left.

Thats the trouble we don't know different people's customs. I have not been much of a traveller so have never had to worry about it. Only traveling I have done is in England and Australia. Customs are basically the same.
