Yes Jackie
Listening to talk back radio debate on the idea of raising the Medicare Levy to cover dental costs and I am ashamed of what I am hearing.

"Old people shouldn't get Medicare they are too likely to get sick" is the prevailing opinion.

WhackyJackieInOz Report 17 Feb 2009 14:28

Oh thats nice wish I was in that Debate. They have paid their taxes over the years.

Did they mention the Dole Bludgers that get Medicare and the Unmarried mothers that have babies all the time. I bet they didn't

Aussies treat pensioners shamefully.
My Mother In Law in China retired on 100% of her income and gets CPI increases twice a year. She can't spend it all and saves some.
Show me the Aussie pensioner that can do that without going without essentials

WhackyJackieInOz

WhackyJackieInOz Report 17 Feb 2009 14:38

Very true Daphne. WE could not manage on the Pension alone. Luckily my hubby provided for us both by having an allocated Pension which gives us that little bit extra each month. We are not extravagant but we survive. We are only allowed a certain amount if we went over that we would have our Aged pensions cut.
Lump Sums for holidays or large things we need to buy are also taken into consideration tax wise. Our money that we have saved and we are penalized for it.

WhackyJackieInOz Report 17 Feb 2009 14:48

I always let Centrelink know if there are any changes whatsoever too.
A lot of people don't. Like you say it's shameful what some people get away with and then they treat us like dirt. My husband worked 6 Days a week 10 hours a day for 42 years here and others like him the same and this is the way we are treat. I love this country and call it my own now but some things need to change.
He rarely had time off sick. He had to be dead on his feet before he would have a sicky
EDIT
Oooopps not 42 years he has been retired 5 now lol I forgot 37 years

No I can't speak Mandarin but I won't have to for the jobs I am looking at.
Teaching conversational English the whole idea is after students do a formal english course they know the rules etc but can't conduct conversations properly. The last part of the course is to put them in a room with someone who doesn't speak their language and the lesson consists solely of conversing in english only on a given subject. It is preferred the teacher speak little or no Mandarin.
Also there is demand for english proof readers as many books are printed there for cheapness.I have contacts for both.

OH was born in Jiang-Su but our apartment is in Beijing.I really don't want to be here in my old age I have already been a victim of crime too many times and feel my children and grandchildren may someday need a safe refuge outside Australia.
