Hi, ladies.

Your story of school PE sounds very familiar, Sue. I was always last to be picked for teams. PE teachers at school looked amazed when I started orienteering outside of school, and started to win things!

Gotcha, Sandie.

Ivor Novello?

You'll get used to the pad really easily. I did.

Do have a look at the Madrid references when you get a minute - I'd be interested to know what you think.

Sorry it took so long Sue ,had to read you're interesting time in Madrid...and fix up the mouse on hubby's ruddy lappy I
When my old PC goes I'll have a lappy and willhave to get used to the pad, but will get my son to change all the setttings (or may even try it myself...won't do it on hubby's.
Must look up all your references about Madrid, they sound fascinating:)

"Peter Starstedt had a Number 1 Hit Single with ' Where do you go to my Lovely' in 1969: The song was Awarded the I N Award that Year.

Both the I and the N are capitals....a name:)

Nite now ~~~~~~

Hi Liz - meet a kindred spirit in the world of the totally unco-ordinated. I was very competitive at school, and I really tried hard at "games" but it was a lost cause. Here I was, all ready to catch that ball. Hands outstretched. Not breathing, I was so fixated on the blxxdy thing. Ball past me by, six inches away from my hands...... again. The only thing they could ever find to write on my report card for PE was "Susan always remembers her kit". What an epitaph!

Madrid was even better than I had imagined. I went with my daughter, Rachel, and we spent two full days in the art galleries of this wonderful city. The first day we did the Prado. I was expecting to be blown away by Goya's dark period stuff, and so it proved. But my favourite was really unexpected. It's a picture of Don Carlos, who was the step brother of Ferdinand (of Ferdinand and Isabella fame) and he was passed over by his father for his inheritance in favour of his younger step brother, Ferdinand. After which he pursued a life of learning and discontent. You can see a copy of the picture at http://www.artehistoria.jcyl.es/histesp/obras/11025.htm

The image doesn't do it justice. What struck me was that Don Carlos was almost the same colour as his books, and almost fading into them. He looked "stretched" as Tolkien described Bilbo. And his dog was almost ethereal. A really surprising find.

The following day we did the Reina Sofia, home to the wonderful Picasso, together with Dali and Miro. Much more my "thing", and Guernica in "the flesh" was breathtaking.

Anyway, thanks for asking. I'd recommend Madrid to anyone.

Back to business

"Peter Starstedt had a Number 1 Hit Single with ' Where do you go to my Lovely' in 1969: The song was Awarded the I N Award that Year." I'm stuck! is the I a capital i or a figure one please?

I can't read music unless it's do,ray me type.lol, but I can play by ear, tunes that I know ,on a recorder ,mouthorgan or one handed on a piano .lol
Bike riding wasn't a prob and passed my driving test first time.
But it took me ages to learn to swim, not that confident now !

Would love to be more musical - but I'm tone deaf, and have problems with co-ordination (not aware of this until a few years ago when it finally dawned on me - took forever to learn to swim, ride a bike, learn to drive etc - and confirmed when told by Mum that I was 2 before I learned to walk) so trying to learn an instrument proved a very frustrating experience.

I would probably approach it differently now, with more patience with myself.

Oh yes Liz...

That's another of my favourites.
With the help our Art teacher in school ( he played the guitar ) 4 of us formed a girl guitar group, 2 of us we A level Art students, and he knew that 3 of us used to perform in our annual Eisteddfod, so he gave us a helping hand:))
He used to pick songs for us to play, Streets of London and Blue Skies, Sunny side of the street are 3 that come to mind.Never heard of them before he suggested them!!.. No....the Sts of London I knew.
I was one of the 2 vocalists, couldn't play a guitar to save my life.lol

Edit..just listened to Streets of London on You tube, what a fabulous voice Ralph McTell had :)

Yes, I love it too. If it comes on the radio I just have to stop and listen. The other song that has the same effect is "Streets of London"
