Oh Di,
Thats so sad that your son has lost 2 friends so very young, and devastating for their parents!..and for you been so close.
Dennis's girls were more often that not in our house of an evening ( and of course in the mornings when I took them to school) or my dau was at theirs.
Dau tells me Dennis's widow is in pieces today, I was going to send her flowers cos she always had flowers on her kitchen table, but dau thought it better not to :(
I'll take her advise for now!

the First m the L of / on the /to M was /were N A, on Jan / Jun / July 21 /31 1969 /79..?

Hi Sandie
such a sad accasion and I know exactly what you mean about crem funeral's as the last 3 I'v been to were all crem one's, one being a lady I worked for, 2nd was my ex mother-in-law and the other which is the most recent ( my employer's dad ) and as you say the curtain's going across is awful, and then when you go out-side if you are unlucky you can hear the furness as they are cremated.
I hope the girl's do allow themselves to grieve as it will help them to come to term's with their lose, I hope I'm not around when my ex goes as I know it will be very hard for my daughter ( that sound's selfish I know ) but it would destroy me to see her so upset as she is a daddy's girl.
My son is going to a friend's funeral tomorrow who was only 23yrs old, they think he had a heart attack, this is the second friend he has lost in 2yrs, the other was some-one he went to school with from the age of 5, my daughter and I went to that one with him as he was my friend's son and I had babysat him as she had done for me and when my daughter was old enough she had babysat him and his younger sister.
Well it is my turn to drone on,( sorry ) but it does help to share thing's and it's better than the spat's you sometime's see on the other thread's.

I'll catch up with you later hopefully
Take care hun

*$parkling $andie* Report 9 Sep 2010 13:03

Hi all~~~

My mistake Di.. not the only one on that question.lol
I believe you hun I won't check the net on that on , sorry it may have mislead you.
It was Sue's go, but I thought I'd put one up as she hadn't been around and did it in a bit of a rush as you can now tell.Doh !!!

Yes thanks Di, as funeral's go it was Ok , a bit weird at the Crem, neither Dennis or his widow weren't particularly religious, but his elder dau, one of my dau's best friends 'found' religion at about 16 when she moved from our village to a town 6 miles away. She made new friends, but her old school friends found her a bit obsessive over it, whilst they never discarded her as their friend or dissed her choice, they still go out socially, perhaps not so regularly as they are all working now.
Dennis's widow doesn't have many close social friends, tho the Crem was packed, with colleagues and friends of them both and their girls.
We were almost first back to the 'wake', they didn't do a 'walk past' at the Crem.. I'm so glad I hate that, it's so orchestrated ! IMO.
We obviously spoke to Chris, bless she could hardly keep it together, but she did.. said 'I'm just glad it's all over and his ashes will stay with me forever'.
Whilst the girls were surreal and over compensated for their mum.
Dau and her other best friend Leah couldn't believe they were so composed. I know neither of them would be.. both Daddy's girls.
It was the first Crem service that my dau and Leah had been to and I found myself comforting the both of them . The drawing of the curtains I find the worst and I lose it then.
Therefore but the grace go I, my 2 are the same ages as Dennis's and whilst they loved their Dad no less, I don't think my son and dau would cope as well.
I recently went to a colleagues funeral she was 58 too, her dau a little older than mine did a reading at the service and kept it together well ( she did have a bit of a turbulent relationship with her mum ) but her son , same age as my dau, 24, was in tears throughout. Bless him.
I suppose it affects us all differently, I just hope those girls grieve properly , in private or wherever for their dad.
I know personally the effects of trying to put on a brave face at the time,,,,,,,
If you don't grieve properly it comes back and hits you in the face:(

Sorry to drone on, but I do find I can cope with funerals better now.
Been to so many family one's as I'm the baby of the family cousin wise, 6 of them are older enough to be my parents.:)
The others 10 are still all older than me.:)

Will give your question a go in a bit Di.
