Hi, I tried to find two half-sisters of mine unsuccessfully a few years ago. It's a long shot but maybe you could turn up something for me. They are:- Gladys (on birth cert but known as Johanna) Muller born between 1950 and 1960 father Johann Muller (Austrian) and Ruth Watson, same year range, father was Tom (probably Thomas) Watson (Scottish). Both girls were born in the UK to Ada Eliza Martin/Mason/Muller and finally Watson, she died in Sydney NSW circa 1978. I traced them to Sydney, NSW circa 1976 and our mum died in 1978. We kept in touch for a while but then sadly life moved on and I've moved several times, and they're probably married with families now. I have a daughter and grand-daughter and it would be lovely if we could be reunited with them. My name was originally Sandra Victoria Martin, dob 28.8.1944 and for a time I was known as Mason, my first stepdad! then eventually I was adopted (1957) and became Anji Waring. If you could dig up something for me it would be wonderful. Many thanks.

Sandy (or Anji) :-)

Hi Sandy/Anji

Sorry I am not much use at tracing living people. Have you tried the Salvation Army tracing service?

Your mum's death notice is at Ryerson Index, not sure if it will tell you much more tho

Hi there

My ancestors moved to NSW (Arncliffe) from England in 1915 there names were
Ellen Kendall (wife)
Abel Kendall (Husband)
Violet, Ivy, Abel (children
I would love to find out any information regarding this family.
I do know Abel served in WW1 in Austailaian Army. :-)

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 30 Dec 2014 03:36

Hi Chrissy

Looks like they arrived in Sydney in 1912.

Here is his WWI record:
KENDALL Abel : Service Number - 1976 : Place of Birth - Burmingham England : Place of Enlistment - Liverpool NSW : Next of Kin - (Wife) KENDALL Ellen

States he was a bricklayer, aged 31 in 1915 and had served in Shropshire Light Infantry. He had several tattoos! See http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/search/

It looks like he also served in WWII and lied about his age:
KENDALL ABEL : Service Number - N75849 : Date of birth - 22 Jul 1893 : Place of birth - BERMINGHAM ENGLAND : Place of enlistment - PADDINGTON NSW : Next of Kin - KENDALL ELLEN

I guess this is his son's WWII enlistment?
KENDALL ABEL : Service Number - NX19678 : Date of birth - 06 Jun 1902 : Place of birth - BIRMINGHAM ENGLAND : Place of enlistment - PADDINGTON NSW : Next of Kin - KENDALL THELMA

Abel snr died in 1957 and Abel jnr died in 1977. Ellen died in 1961 - assuming her parents were George & Phoebe? See http://www.woronoracemetery.org.au/finding-loved-ones

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 30 Dec 2014 03:42

Abel jnr married in 1927:
16246/1927 / KENDALL ABEL / GRIFFITH THELMA J M / ROCKDALE

Possibly a 2nd marriage --or a son's marriage!:
21615/1957 KENDALL ABEL / GRAY TERESA LYLE / SYDNEY

Teresa died in 2000.

Possible marriage for Ivy:
16000/1928 WILSON ERIC D / KENDALL IVY V / ROCKDALE

her husband's WWII enlistment? place fits:
WILSON ERIC DOUGLAS : Service Number - N334063 : Date of birth - 27 Aug 1904 : Place of birth - SYDNEY NSW : Place of enlistment - ARNCLIFFE NSW : Next of Kin - WILSON IVY

His birth and death:
28984/1904 WILSON ERIC D / HENRY A / EDITH M / SYDNEY
104381/1980 WILSON ERIC DOUGLAS / HENRY AUGUSTUS / EDITH MAY

Possible marriage for Violet??
20614/1950 EDNEY SIDNEY CHARLES / KENDALL VIOLET ALEXANDRA / ROCKDALE

Dawn Report 3 Jan 2015 19:41

Hi Cherilyn,
I wonder if you can give me some pointers on my great aunt Florence Knapp, who travelled to Sydney Australia with her widowed mother on the Orontes on 16/10/1920, occupation Compositor (print setter). She was born in London in 1899 and her Mother Jane Annie Knapp was born in Jarrow on Tyne in 1875. I've found them both on the ship, but no trace after they arrive.

I know my aunt lived until at least 1970, as her sister used to receive letters from her when I was a toddler. I think she married and had at least one daughter. I have tried to use various international sites, but nothing has ever turned up. If you could just point me in the right direction, I'd be really grateful!

Hi. Hope you can help. Am new to this and trying to find info on my gg grandad. Charles gilmartin. What I know is that he was born in 1905 in Oldham Lancashire uk but died in on 29th August 1963 in Perth. If what I have found or same person is correct he is buried at karrkatta cemetery.
What I'd like to know is what year he went to Australia and why(if possible) did he have further family there as I know my gg nan is buried in Liverpool so I don't know if they were divorced or if he was over there with work or moved over there when gg nan died (I cant find info on her death but I know she is in Liverpool). I'm certain he was in the navy as this is what my findings has shown but as for his life and death in Australia I know nothing.

Any help would be fab.
Thank you
(His wife was Sarah gilmartin was Morgan and they had 7or 8 children.

HI Emma

This is a record located in Perth WA from NAA RecordSearch:
GILMARTIN Charles - [Ex s.s. "Monowai" at Sydney in about August 1955]

Could be how he arrived in Australia?

See http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/search/

I can't see a marriage for him here or in NSW. He is not buried with a spouse by the same surname in any case - if that is him at Karrakatta.

You could try getting the record from the archives?
