Hi Gins.. John Joseph, born 16/2/1872 Dublin, married to Elizth Broadhead.. Yes,that's right, son of Joseph"John" Frederick Lanigan & Eliza Crosby.. detail of marriage & death certs matchs but stll, no clues as to who accompanied the orphaned 8 year old John Joseph & his 7 year old sister, Ann Jane Mary Lanigan, out to Australia in 1880.. so query remains.. |

Unless there were 2 Thomas Crosby's living on Amien St Dublin this may be Thomas 1842..... Dublin Directory shows the following..... |

Apologies for delay in responding have had several weeks away & just now catching up. Many thanks Eringobragh 1916 for your advices. The 40 Amiens St address is interesting as we know Thomas of Thomas Crosby & Son, sail and rope manufacturers, lived at 62 Amiens St. and is ref'd to as Captain in documents of son James Joseph Crosby. Added to that is a Royal Navy Reserve list which records a Thomas Crosby, Seniority in Merchant Navy 03/04/1826 with date promoted to Hon Lieut. 26/08/1862. Later, there are also said to be records with Thomas as Marine Superintendant, Dublin Board of Trade but not seen those. |

If the obituary was 1882 then was it the same man? |

The 1880 article above for Thomas Crosby of Eden Quay doesn't give a middle name but then there is this: |

I presume these references refer to the births of JF Lanigan's children? Appear to give a home address: |

This says Joseph "P" but I think it should be "F" |

Thanks Marie Celeste.. Ref the sale advertisement..that's all great new detail that helps fill the gap from when Joseph Frederick Lanigan died in 1878 & his father in-law disposed of his estate then shipped the now orphaned Lanigan children to Australia in 1880. Would be interesting to see the probate, to understand what sort of Estate Joseph Frederick Lanigan left in Thomas Crosby's hands.. |
