This is my grandfather who went from Devonport to the USA in August 1923 on the Paris as far as I know to go to work in Detroit. I'm having trouble tracing him after that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does this mean that he came back in 1927? My father remembers him coming back to visit but doesn't know when. I wonder whether he came back permanently and his mother never told him.

Welcome to the boards Tony.
You've noticed Carole's post was some time ago and she's probably not looking for replies now.
Try clicking on her name to send a Personal message through GR's system. If she has the same email she registered they can let her know she has a message waiting in the system.
You have to keep your fingers crossed that she is able to receive that message and then able/willing to reply.

Erika
Thanks for the info today. Already have this but, am trying to establish what happened to him between 1940 and his death thought to be in 1954. Also trying to establish where he died.

Ancestry has WW11 Draft Registration Card 1942, and Social Security application, as well as US City Directories info You may well have seen these - my sub doesn't allow me to access them
EDIT
There is also a death index - again, I can't access it
You need someone with worldwide Ancestry - or, if it's important enough, you can subscribe for a month for £19.99. They also offer 12 record views in 14 days for £9.99
Sorry I can't help further

Thanks a lot for the further info. Ancestry is the only site I don't subscribe to but, it seems greyghost does. Wish I joined GR two years ago!

Thanks for the most comprehensive info!
Strange that he received US draft papers at age 50 so will have to establish if he did military service. Always wondered if he remarried - seems he was married and had three children in the UK, Carole's father being one of them, before emigrating. Task now is to find more about Mrs Francis S Memory and any relatives. Again many thanks!

From familysearch - no way of knowing from this if it's the same woman, although the district is the same
Frances Memory United States Social Security Death Index Age 79 Given Name Frances Surname Memory Birth Date 08 Feb 1895 State New York Last Place of Residence Oneida, New York Previous Residence Postal Code 13502 Event Date Jun 1974
If it is the right one, he married her after 1940, as on that census he claimed to be single
