Hi all. I'm very new to this and only registered a couple of days ago.
I'm researching my family (Rowland) and so far I've got back to Robert and Hannah who lived in Baslow and owned the Wheatsheaf hotel.
I think they had 11 children.......Kate (married Shaw). Emma (married Sheldon). Fanny. Hannah (married Furness). Harry. James William. Margaret Ann (Maggie Thorpe) Robert. Sarah (married Bland). Henry, and finally Louis who was killed at the age of 3 by a horse drawn coach outside of the Wheatsheaf.
Robert and Hannah are my great great grandparents who led a fairly well heeled life back in those days...............Robert born 1837 and Hannah born 1840. Hannah's maiden name was Goddard.

You guys really know how to find things don't you. I am so impressed.
Some of the information I have managed to find but you have provided a lot that I wasn't sure about.
There seemed to be so many Rowlands around that I couldn't decide which ones might or might not be mine.
I allways wondered where my fathers middle name Walter came from.......now I know.
Family breakups in later years meant that I couldn't gain much information to begin with but now the tree is beginning to come together.

I'm aiming to go back as far as possible but that could take me a while!

I do have in my possession an old photo postcard which depicts the toll bridge in Baslow. Printed on the card is "Rowlands bridge" but so far.....despite hearing it was connected to my family.....I haven't found any evidence of that.
We tried to find the bridge ourselves but were looking in totally the wrong place.
Just the other week though we were passing through Baslow and saw what I think must be the bridge (I saw the toll booth) closeby to the church.
We couldn't stop at that time but we will be going back to check it out. I was also told there was a stained glass window in the church commemorating Robert Rowland. B 1837. We did look some years ago but couldn't find it.

I'm thoroughly enjoying doing this and maybe one day my research skills will improve.

Hello Derek.
Thankyou so much for your very kind offer. I'm having to put this on the back burner for now though because sadly the last Rowland of my particular branch of the tree passed away this morning.
This was Robert Walter Rowland who was my Father. He passed away today in Plymouth, aged 88 years old.

I'm sure there's plenty that I can ask you about though, so I will get back to you in the near future. The stained glass window in the church intrigues me, as does the bridge.
