Hi, I've just read that up til 1929 girls aged 12 and boys aged 14 were able to marry. Has anyone come across a marriage at such an ealy age in their research?

In 1851 there were 56000 marrs where both parties gave their ages in years (rather than as full/minor).
The youngest groom was 16 and the youngest bride was 15 (18 of them)

In 1861 there were 103000 marrs where both parties gave their ages in years (rather than as full/minor).
The youngest groom was 16 and the youngest bride was 15 (35 of them).

My maternal grt grandma and her younger sister both married at just over 15 .with parental consent, this was circa 1870

Researching:

One of mine was married in August 1873 he stated on the marriage cert. that he was 20, although he was only 16, his wife was 19 she was pregnant at the time of the marriage.
7 years later they divorced, the divorce documents make very interesting reading, she was a very naughty lady :-D and also confirms he was only 16
