So many sites do offer to get certs for you but this is the one to use

The latest email from ancestry.co.uk has a section advertising their certificate buying option!

I would agree that the government site is generally the best place, but I was recently surprised to be able to order a copy of a parish register of marriage over the phone ( backed up by e mail details of details of date and place etc.) and was only charged £8.
This is the same as a post-1837 certificate.
I needed to compare 2 signatures of marriages about 13 years apart, so contacted the relevant archives which held them.
I already held GRO copies so could give all details.

The other office actually sent a scanned copy via e mail and didn't charge.

When I first started my tree 3 1/2 years ago the first marriage cert I bought was from ancestry as I didn't know any different....I think that was £18 at the time and of course it didn't have my grandparents signatures on which I would have liked to have seen.
Think I had been spoilt looking at the London marriages for gt grandparents ect on ancestry and expected the same

Have just been on facebook and spotted a comment that Ancestry charge £22.99 to supply a certificate for you. What a rip off, and they are not the most expensive.

The cheapest place to purchase your Certificates is from the GRO at Blackpool. They cost £9.25 all in.

Now you can go the the local Registrars office, but they will charge around 50p postage and packaging on top.

So the cheapest place to buy is the GRO.

And I have also read somewhere that many of the more busy Registrars offices are cutting back on the service of providing historical certificates.
