I don't mind sitting there for ages going through the books, in hopes to get a result.

Historical ER might have been transfered to either the main library if it has an archive/local history section, or possibly the county archive. You must have caught them at a busy time if they couldn't put themselves out to advise you.

It's unlikely that the Council would still have them although it is possible. It is your right to access them in person.

ER are arranged by address, not surname. If its a large area it could take you all day and possiibly the next to plough through every page in the volume. :-0

Oooh, I thought for sure it'd have the address. And as for the electoral roll, I visited the place locally, went to their library, they said they didn't have them. :(

I have my parents divorce papers from 1960 and they don't give addresses either.

Have you looked at other ways of perhaps finding an address?

Maybe one or other of them was listed in telephone directories. Using the address there you could search old electoral lists to see who else was registered at the same address.

My parents were divorced in 1951 and I have the papers.

It gives their full names and that of the co-respondent, details of the marriage, reason for the divorce and instructions as to custody of the children, but no addresses. They haven't just been left off; there isn't any provision for them.

There's a reason why, but I'd rather not get into the nitty-gritty details. And the ones who were around than, are all dead.

I don't really understand why you need to know these personal details?

If you only want to know their address, have you tried asking family members ?

Thanks for all the information detectives, I'll try all those avenues and see if anything comes up.

Kath, I'm pretty sure it went down. The story goes that the only way she could get a divorce was if either the husband or herself was caught committing adultery. And so a 'setup' (for lack of a better word) was put into place. Reason I need the records is I need to know their adresses at the time and see if I gives info about who exactly committed the adultery. Not sure if she did the deed or he was the one setup. So many family rumours tend to hold some truth.

I'm also looking for court records on a separate case, but I think I need to make a different tread for that.

Are you certain that the divorce you are looking for actually took place? It's just that at that time very few people could afford to divorce as it was quite expensive and relatively difficult to obtain.

Many couples after the war just split up and went on to live with (or bigamously marry) someone else.

One of the suggestions is to search the newpaper archives. These are held on GR and FMP & can be searched if you like to give names. If your sub doesn't give access, do a free search then C&P anything that might be relevant for someone to access on your behalf

Not sure if this is on the correct board, I can only hope so.

Anyway... I need to get my hands on some divorce papers filed somewhere between 1945 to 1949. I think I asked for help on this some time ago, but unfortunately got busy in life. Is there anyway I can obtain these records? If so, how and where?
