Not to worry - Martha is a rather distant relative. Thank you for looking anyway :-)

No daddy for Charles though,,,,,,,, :-(

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 12 Dec 2014 17:48

Thank you for the additional information - Charles Mayfield is the 'marry-in'.

The 1911 census shows the Gerrards to be living in Lincoln, and yes Martha's father was called Thomas. :-)

FMP,
Has place of residence for both groom and bride ---Carlton Scroop.a couple of miles from Caythorpe.

Brides father as Thomas.
does this match your findings?

Until proved otherwise, I'm going to assume it was the Lincolnshire one.
When I have a bit more time, I might email Notts and/or Lincs archives and see what their take on it is. If I'm lucky, it might pique their curiosity to the extent that they'll have a look at the PR ;-)

Thank you for your assistance. :-D

Its a mystery Dec.

Just checked a 1926 Kellys,,,,,,St Vincents Church Caythorpe in the County of Lincolnshire,,,!

Claypole a nearby village could just come under the Newark boundry as does Stubton..

Maybe not so of a mystery after all..

West Caythorpe came under the UD of Newark.!

:-D :-D :-D.

It's a pity that Notts archive is closed. Wendy might have been willing to check the registers on her next visit ;-)

Kense Report 8 Dec 2014 09:30

Whoever did the PR transcription of the marriage would have got the county from the parish register, they wouldn't have had to assume a county.

The county is mentioned in the top line of each entry viz
19.. Marriage solemnized at ... in the ... of ... in the County of ...

From 1852 to 1946,

Registration District,

7 a--- Rutland ,Lincolnshire,parts. of Leicestershire....

the GRO index is 7b,,,,,,,,,for the 1927 marriage,

Newark has always been part of the County of Nottinghamshire and Sherwood, Shire district is Nottinghamshire,

Kense Report 6 Dec 2014 22:34

According to the GENUKI list, Caythorpe, Lincs was in the Newark district until 1934.
Caythorpe, Notts became part of Newark in 1974.

Kay???? Report 6 Dec 2014 21:17

I would assume so......the GRO will be right as it has the correct registration district,,,,it was just assumed it was Lincs,,,,they may have transcribed others which took place in Caythorpe Lincs and went from that.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 6 Dec 2014 20:56

:-S

So did who ever made the PR transcription assume it was the one in Lincs when it was acutally the one in Notts?

Kay???? Report 6 Dec 2014 18:36

There are two Caythorpes,

One in Lincolnshire,

One in Nottinghamshire,

Caythorpe Lincolnshire is in the reg district of 7a.Caythorpe marriages/births/deaths come under Grantham.7a.

Caythorpe Nottinghamshire is reg district of 7b which includes Newark.this one lies just outside East Bridgeford, or google ""Gunthorpe"" Caythorpe is about 5/6 miles east.but is just outside the district to be Nottingham and nearest reg place is Newark,,,,

I was focussed on the difference in Counties, and didn't think of doing that ;-)

If you click on the place name in your freebmd search results, it will give you information about that district and subdistricts and component parishes.

It was the Nottinghamshire v Lincolnshire aspect that was the problem.

Thank you for setting me straight :-)

The Newark RD covers Caythorpe even though Newark is in Notts

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 5 Dec 2014 21:44

If you are referring to the fact that Caythorpe is in Lincolnshire and Newark is in Nottinghamshire, that is OK as the parish of Caythorpe is in Newark registration district.

If you mean something else, what is the problem please?
