Can anyone with information on where to go to find my grandfather who we believe was born in Bonn, Germany in 1891. Is there a online search engine for Germany? |

My G.Fathers name was James Louis Harman, according to a marriage certificate he was born in Bonn, Germany in 1891. That is all the info I have, I have found the same name in London but birth date is 1893 although name is same, I think that this may not be my relative. I have some army documents from WW1 which are definately my grandfathers as he was with Kings Royal Rifles during WW1. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I will leave all this posted in case it is your family, but if your James Louis Harman was born in Germany, then it can't be the same one, unless the family nipped over there, he was born and they came back to UK to register the birth. |

Marriage certificate from 1926 to Margaret Warner says fathers from Bonn, Germany. This was given by my cousin so I am not 100% sure, although we were always told that grandfather was with the Kings royal rifles as he was brought back to england as an infant. The problem I have had is my fathers birth certificate says mothers maiden name is Bolton and I cannot find any marriage with James Louis Harman and Bolton. He married at least twice firstly to Vera Clarke in 1915 and again in 1926 to Margaret Warner, but my father James Oswald Harman was born in 1918 and died in 2011. We just cannot confidently confirm the family. |

This is beginning to make sense now. Wow I can't thank you enough and so quickly finding this information. I believe that if he was actually born in Germany, then it would seem he was brought to england as an infant. Could this be the reason that birth year is different? The Bolton find makes sense of it all now and they seemed to stay in the Battersea area of London. It looks like my grandfather was also married 3 times. |

Looks like there was another child born before your Grandad - James L(Louis?) |
