Thank you all very much. The family in question come from a small village where people are all inter-related. There are several men with the same name as the father, but not so many couples with the same mother's name as well.

The occupation should help and also the address, as they didn't move house at all, according to the censuses.

Now to send for certificates and hope I don't waste too much money!!

I think the earliest I have is for April 1891 ..........

In the occupation column .......... daughter of (father's name) Mechanic (Ironworks)

In the Informant column .......... (name of mother) Mother Present at the death. (Address)

My brother, photo taken in September 1991 just a couple of weeks before he died. ............................................................ To help us and to get better results, please post as much detail as you can, especially name, date(s) and place. Also say what you already know.

The one's I have which are around the 1890's say in the occupation column "son of"or "daughter of" and then the father's name but the mother is not mentioned.

Hi AndysMum.
I don't have one myself, but had a look at scanned documents on Ancestry.
I found a death cert for a little girl in 1870. In 'occupation' column her father's name and occupation is filled in.
ADDED ditto for a child who died 1867.

I have obtained several death certificates over the years, but they are all for adults.

They usually describe the deceased as "wife of" or "widow of" or, if unmarried, with no relationship at all.

Please can someone with a death certificate for a child, round about 1870-1880, tell me if the parents' names are shown.
