I am trying to find a William Hines born 1852. He was married to Elizabeth Ann Hines (Nee Davies) . He died around 1880. I can't find a link or his death. This makes it hard to continue.

Is this the marriage you refer to - it's the only one coming up for the name combination.

First name(s) WILLIAM Last name HINES Marriage quarter 4 Marriage year 1875 MarriageFinderâ„¢ WILLIAM HINES married one of these people ELIZABETH DAVIES, ELIZABETH CLITHEROE District PRESTWICH County Lancashire Country England Volume 8D Page 685
The marriage certificate would confirm ages (as given at the time) , occupation of William and the name and occupation of his Father which might help to find him in earlier census.

??? Possible for Elizabeth in 1881 - but it does say she is married, not widowed, although that doesn't necessarily mean she wasn't a widow. It's the right area for the marriage in 1875.

Could this be William in the 1861 census (living in Newton which is where the marriage took place and also the son was born)? :-

The 1851 census for the family KathleenBell found in 1851. FMP have made a real pigs ear of the transcription.
William Rodgers is a Power Loom Weaver
Catherine is Hargreaves and I think all the Hines relationships are to her
Hiam's are Hines - Loni is Levi, Hannah is Henry
Thomas and James RODGERS are Son to the Head
Sarah Daries is Davies
So all in all the Hines' and Davies' look to be interconnected

I think, looking closer at the 1851 census original that Henry Hines is married. It would then make sense that Mary Ann on the line below is Henry's wife and William was their son. And perhaps his age says 4 months not 4. ????? Greyghost, My goodness what did I get into. Thank you very much for your messages I do have the Marriage Cert of William Hines and Elizabeth Davies. attending was Elizabeths Sister Mary Davies and John Powell. William's Father as a plumber. I can find a William Hines a Painter in Chorlton on Medlock born Ireland 1828. That is the link I am trying to make. The other thing is on my Grandfather's wedding in 1899 it has his father William down as deceased. Grandfather was born 1979 so his Father died presumably around those years. I do thank people who have given me lots of info and advice. Your's John Hines

working on the principle that William died between 1877 & 1899 - (you did say earlier that he was born c1877 not 1879 and his marriage cert confirms that)
If the 1891 census I posted is correct then this could be Williams death
Cheshire Death indexes for the years: 1891 Surname Forename(s) Age or Year of Birth Sub-District HINES William 38 Audenshaw
a tree on ancestry has it as 24th May 1891 but there is no back up death cert listed. Some of the other facts on the tree tie in but others just seem to have been made to fit
there is this possibility as well
Deaths Mar 1896 (>99%) Haines William 48 Prestwich 8d 299
Do you know if the family were RC at any point?

I would like to thank all the members for their help. William Hines b 1854 has been a big stumbling block for me over the years. I was told by an Uncle many years ago William was born in Liverpool of Irish Parents. His Parents came from County Wicklow. His Father another William. I tried to trace when we went to County Wicklow in 1995. This was a fruitless journey. Time was a factor as we were on holiday from Australia. Other people in my immediate Family came up with William Hines Family in Chorlton M/c. He was a Painter and not a Plumber as was on the Wedding cert of William and Elizabeth ann Davies. I could not find a link to join up. William born 1854 died at a young age. How where and when has been extremely difficult. Lancashire Ann found a Cheshire Death Index but there was no Death cert listed. Still not giving up. John Hines Kiama Australia
