The witnesses were George Smith and William Marsland. Not sure who William Marsland was but it looks as if George Smith was someone from the church as he is a witness to the other marriages on the page. |

Could this be your family in 1841, possibly with Ellen Hallam as Mother or even grandmother? |

Not sure if it's the right Ellen but on the IGI there is a birth of an Ellen Hallam in 1817 and it gives her parents as Henry Hallam and Julia Elton. |

This is from the Parish Register. Jan 1837 is too early for a certificate. |

Andy's Mum and Kathleen's replies shows Wm Marsland as Witness, which is a name on the 1841 census I posted |

On the 1841 census that greyghost posted there is a John and Sarah Hallam further down the page who could possibly be Ellen's parents. Possible that the older Ellen living with Thomas and Ellen could be her grandmother. It is difficult to tell as relationships are not given on the 1841 census and some ages are rounded down. |

I think CHEAP is Cheadle(see below) and Wm Thomson is the Vicar looking at the original. |

Ellen Hallam aged 65 is in a household with Wm Marsland I think with the other named persons together but under the same roof. |

does it give Thomas's fathers name? |

Parish records for that time didn't record father's names on marriage records. They were only added when marriage certificates started in July 1837. |
