I have a copy of an Indenture for a child named Peter Massey aged 7-8, dated 3/07/1764, with the Blacksmith, Bradley Pass , at High Legh, a township in Rostherne parish.

I believe....his father to be one Richard Massey, weaver, of Blackley, Lancashire
who died 1757. No burial place known.

His mother is possible Catherine ? who married Bradley Pass 1764

Cannot find Peters baptism (say 1756/57, or a suitable marriage to fit the parents Richard and Catherine.

can anyone advise please?

The last one named may be the marriage, where did it take place? 3/6/1751--

This Richard Massey was a weaver who died in Blakely, Lancs,15/11/ 1757, buried at St Peters,,but was previously of Rostherne parish. (when?)

a Catherine Massey married Bradley Pass, Blacksmith of High Legh in 27/06/1764 at Rostherne.
(when Peter is 7-8 years old. -the bond is dated 3/7/1764

He is not the Richard son of John Massey, Shoemaker of Tabley-- that Richard is believed to have been a farmer at Ollerton, near Knutsford. Married to Sarah Cherry.
in 1759 at Sandbach.

Thank you for your assistance, there are so many of them in this area, its hard to know who is connected.

Thank you all so much , this has been an interesting journey!

I am in correspondence with someone who thinks this Richard Massey is another one ---if you see what I mean.

So finding this marriage is extremely helpful. I had found the burial which was informative becuse it gives his occupation, but finding a suitable marriage is even more so.

why is it that when you have looked at so many sources, someone else finds something in the same place? :-S

Anyway I can proceed with the Catherine Shaw connection.

Oddly the Bradley Pass mentioned, maybe the same one who married a Frances Massey in 1745, its a name more popular that I would have expected... :-)

Thanks again :-)

Thank you, very informative.

But If they married in Blackburn, why is the bond part of the Cheshire collections?

They both appear to come from Lancashire villages?
Is there anyway to tell how old they are?

One other question please.

On FSo there is a burial at Bowdon parish church dated --29 March 1803.
Catherine Pass.
As she married Richard Massey at Blackburn in 1751, presuming she was then 21,
and Peter born the 1756 at Middleton -this would make her 73+/-. at this burial.
She married Bradley Pass in 1764 at Rostherne.
Bowdon records are not on every site, so could anyone check this out for me please.

I haven't found a suitable baptism for her yet. And Richard seems to have moved around a bit, so its hard to determine when/where he was born, But looks like the period before 1730 at least.

if anyone has any further suggestions i should be pleased to hear them

Thank you

The latter entry seem a possible ,Sandbach being within travelling distance of Rostherne parish
. It dosnt explain of course how she comes to be in Blackburn to marry Richard Massey there.

I had thought she would have been living there and met Richard as he travelled around.
Although I also thought that hand loom weavers stayed put? One family I researched in yorshire who were fancy wollen weavers stayed in the same village for 200 years

Thank you

Thank you all;

It would seem that Catherine Shaw is actually Catherine Chew, a surname name I dont know but seems common in Lancashire,
