I'm trying to find a relative, John George Scott b1872 (actually 11.12.1871 but registered 1872). Tried the 1881 census but no luck on JohnGeorge so tried just John Scott. 4149 matches but the page search freezes at page 151 where the age is about 37 and I'm trying to find a boy of 9 ! Can't find any useful way to narrow the search. What I'd really like to do is find the marriage of his parents JohnScott and Charlotte Smith who lived at 31 Portland St when JG was born. Any advice on how to progress as I'm running out of ideas :-(

does it say johns occupation on the birth cert ?

shirley - yes, that's him in 1911 but I can't find him between birth in 1872 and the 1901 census

alviegal - yes, that's the person but as above I can't find him earlier...

safc - John Scott is a Boot Closer on the birth cert of Jan 1872.

It's a puzzle as I can't find a marriage and the family 'disappear' until John George on the 1901 census.

SO although the age is wrong on the 1891 posted by Mel (@ 9 Nov 2016 22:43), it is the correct John Scott, and he is the cousin of Thomas:

Thomas was the son of Charlotte's brother, Thomas.
