Evening everyone

I started doing my family tree about 13 yrs agao with my dad, he sadly passed away 8 years ago and I couldn't bring myself to do anymore.

i've got the search urge again, trouble is me and my dad used to search a load of different free websites for births, deaths, marriages and census records and as its been so long i can't remember what sites we used

Has anyone got any useful websites other than ths one please?

Free sites - for example:

And others depending on what part of the country you're interested in - eg -

www.lancashirebmd.org.uk

Although you're asking about free sites, it's well worth paying for a sub to either
www.ancestry.co.uk (or its sister sites in Australia, Canada, USA, etc) or www.findmypast.co.uk.
Both of those offer 14 days free trial, so you can see which suits you better.

FMP is also offering free access until 1st May.

Don't forget the new GRO Index site ......

........ they've digitised their records to show mother's maiden names from the start of registration on 1 July 1837 to about 1916, and are also digitising the death records.

You have to register, but it is free ......... and hat is also the site from which to buy any bmd certificates that you want, for £9.25 including post and packing anywhere in the world.

There are a couple of idiosyncrasies to their digitising .......

1. Mother's maiden name doesn't show if mother's maiden name is the same as the child's, as it assumes that the baby is illegitimate. Fine ........ unless you have people with the same surname marrying, as I do.

2. The digitising of the death records has no way of adding month or year in words after the number. So 1-12 MAY refer to either 1 month or 1 year. Easy to sort out if you have an unusual name, not so easy in most cases.

I do wonder if I have the correct rossiter's though, simply because on my great grandfather William rossiter and my great gran clementine knill's marriage cert Nicholas is down as a moulder for his profession, but then searching the internet as I'm a little thick sometimes and need a little help from google (love google) a moulder was a brick maker, so perhaps the same thing?

It is the correct family- on the 1901 Nicholas is listed as a moulder -Ironworks. The family are living in Trinity Street.

If you look at the births for the later children it shows they are at Trinity Street:

Are you certain he was born in Ireland?

My mum is 100% certain that he was born in wexford (obviously this information came from her mum or Williams wife as my mum never knew her grandfather) she's been telling me for years that her grandad was an Irish man. While clementine was born in England. They married in Torquay Devon. William died 5 days after my grandparents george eli saxby and ida cathleen rossiter got married. So the information about Torquay is correct
