I have traced deaths and births but do not know how to whittle this down to the month and specific date by looking at the records online. Can someone shed some light on how to do this as at the top of most "pages" it states 3 different months

Welcome to the board Geoffrey. In most cases you will have to purchase the certificate ( from the GRO using the ref numbers) to find the exact date. Though depending where and when you might find a baptism record that also gives date of birth. Or you may find a death record that also gives date of birth ,
for example more recent deaths on freebmd.org.uk give a birth date , but bear in mind this is only as good as the informant giving the info.

Deaths Mar 1974 (>99%)

Also worth looking at

if you have the year of death, and there is a probate record it may give exact date the person died.

If the birth and death information you have obtained is from the GRO index, you need to be aware that the place given is the registration district of the event. The actual place may be some miles away.

This site explains it:
