Hi Nyx - I came across those two above when I was searching round and did wonder about them. As for William Taylor - I have checked on the 1911 census and they were living Drybrook and the place of birth was listed as DRYBROOK and as William himself supposedly filled this in, it should be correct. Also on 1911 he has put his age down as 30 which of course could mean later in 1880 or early in 1881. I am seeing my friend tis evening but I don't think she will be of any help as William was her Grandfather and he died just weeks after she was born so she has no memory of him at all. You are eight though, the best way is to get Laura's marrage cert and have a look on there to see who was William's father. I am not sure unfortunately that my friend will want to pay out for a certificate - I can but suggest it !! Thanks for replying and all your help. |

I think that you'd need some marriage certs to find out who Albert's father is, and same for William Taylor, there are several of the same birth date and the Taylors may be unrelated, or related further back eg cousins rather than siblings? |

Hi Nyx - I think I may well have either made a mistake or got myself all mixed up because I cannot locate the Albert Taylor mentioned on 1939 list anywhere. He, according to what it says on there, was born 1896 but no indication of where. William Taylor - Laura's husband - was born abt 1880 Harry Hill (now called Harrow Hill)which is roughly the area we are concentrating on. However that would be a 16 years gap and I cannot locate the two together anywhere. I have searched and searched blindly not having a birth location. There are however more Albert Taylors than you would imagine born in the area Harry Hill, East Dean, Longhope etc. than you would imagine. Is it possible that the Albert Taylor married to Sarah is NOT in fact William's brother but is the brother of Florence Kathleen M Taylor. What do you think.? There appears to be an awful lot of different Taylors in the area ! I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks. |

Hi Nyx - well I have spent a few few hours today trying to unravel this and positively connect William Taylor(Laura's husband) with Albert Taylor (who Sarah Waite married) as brothers but I have been unable to. I think I shall give up pretty soon. Thank you for all your input. |

Hi Nyx - thanks for your information. I have been spending ages trying to sort this all out and have discovered that the Albert Taylor that Sarah Jane Waite (then King) married after her first husband Arthur died was in fact the brother of William Taylor (Laura Jane King's husband) !!! I have alsd discovered that Sarah Jane Waite's father was Thomas Waite (I think Thomas Robert Waite) and that the witnesses to her wedding to Arthur King were Charles Thomas Waite (her brother? her uncle?) and a Beatrice May Hodkinson. With this information I tried to find both the Waite family and Taylor families on census returns to try and tie the Taylors together. No success I'm afraid. I have tried all the individual people but cannot tie them all up together as yet. I shall keep trying ! |

Nyx - I am so so grateful to you for all your efforts solving this puzzle for us. My friend will be delighted. She is in her early 80's and this has been a puzzle for years. Her grandmother (Laura Jane had been a bit of a mystery for years. Thank you again very much indeed. |
