Thank you SylviaInCanada, I didn't know that.
And yes, she did have 2 children who lived to adulthood, who I knew very well.
Thanks everyone. I'll close this thread now.

I agree with Sylvia - Florence is likely to be telling the truth about having had two children.
However - just in case she wasn't -
Looking back over both threads, we don't seem to have found Florence in 1881.
Just maybe a possibility ???
SHILTON, ALFRED mms SHILTON GRO Reference: 1880 D Quarter in ST. SAVIOUR, SURREY Volume 01D Page 187
Death ??
SHILTON, ALFRED 1 GRO Reference: 1881 D Quarter in CAMBERWELL Volume 01D Page 550
EDIT:
But I suppose this might be Alfred's mother. I don't see either of them in 1891:-

well, you asked about Florence Ada, and I think I've proved that she is not your "missing" child, and as far as I can make out, you are now asking exactly the same question on your previous thread.
I've also given you directions to GRO Index and how to use it, although I'm sure that you must already have it.
If she did have another child, it could have .........
a) died at or soon after birth, and it is possible that the birth was not registered. Mothers had 6 weeks to register births, deaths had to be registered ASAP ........ I've got several births that wee not registered but there is a death registration for them. Someone forgot! Stillbirths were not registered at that time.
b) the child was adopted at birth. It may have been registered, or Florence might just have given it away and the new parent registered the child in their name. Legal adoptions did not come in until about 1927, so there are few records before then.
c) Florence did keep the child, but it died before the 1901 Census or was out at a foster parent.
She does say very clearly on the 1911 that she had 2 children born and 2 children living ................. she could well be telling the truth!
Family stories are often just that!

Thank you everyone.
I knew all the below about Florence’s twins, as my grandad was Fredrick.
I know all the up to date info below but I wanted to find out if she had another child before then twins were born (Frederick Victor and Edmund Roy 1903)
She came from an affluent family in Astwood Bank Birmingham , with a servsnt, and thwas n on the 1901 census she is a servsnt herself in Kings Norton. This may be because she brought shame in the family in 1900/1901.
Florence Ada Shilton’s name was always Shilton and she lied on the twins birth certificate. She was briefly married to Ellis Mason in 1914 bit he died in action in1916.
I know a lot about my mums grandma but am stuck as to why she was a servsnt. It is just a thought that she had another child before the twins.
I also know already a lot about her brother and parents.
Thanks for your comments and if you can find Fllorence’s ’other child’ that would be great.

I would say from the above that Florence Gertrude is NOT Florence Ada Shilton's daughter
but think you should also double check all other children that you have think are Florence Ada's.
You have to register on the following site, but it is free ....
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
click on Order Certificates Online
click on Search the GRO historical birth and ........
Scroll down to Log In (or to register initially)
Click on Submit
Click on Search the GRO Indexes

from the new GRO Index .......
SHILTON, FREDERICK VICTOR mmn SHILTON GRO Reference: 1903 M Quarter in WEST DERBY Volume 08B Page 258
SHILTON, EDMUND ROY mmn SHILTON GRO Reference: 1903 M Quarter in WEST DERBY Volume 08B Page 259
Both of these birth registrations include the mother's maiden name as Shilton, which implies that she married a man who also had the surname Shilton OR told the Registrar that!
However, this is Florence Gertrude's birth registration from that same site ......
SHILTON, FLORENCE GERTRUDE mmn TOWELL GRO Reference: 1901 M Quarter in NUNEATON Volume 06D Page 512
The GRO Index includes mmn for registrations from 1 July 1837 to about 1919. Freebmd shows mmn from mid-1911 onwards.
There is no mmn shown if the child is illegitimate, unless the woman has told lies.
Here is Florence Gertrude with her parents in Nuneaton in 1901

I am trying to find out if my great-grandmother is her mum and that maybe she was adopted?
Can anyone please tell me how I can find out how many children my great-grandmother had (I know she had 2). Is there a list that would show all her children? I think that maybe she had another child that may have been adopted.
My great-grandmother is Florence Ada Shilton, b1864 in Astwood Bank, Birmingham. Listed as living in Kings Norton in 1901 Then I know she was living in West Derby, Liverpool in 1903.
Any suggestions welcome.
Many thanks
Jackie
