So is it Max, William and August you're looking for? Max in 1891 has changed to Albert in 1901?
FAHSE, GOTTLIEB HARRY ALBERT MARTENS Order GRO Reference: 1889 M Quarter in BRADFORD YORKSHIRE Volume 09B Page 164
I assume this is Albert so Max was born 1883 in Germany? Strange about the 1891 census, where was Max if he had mistakenly been named instead of Albert?

My paternal grandfather was German He was born c1880 in Germany and by 1889 the family were in Bradford Yorkshire where the last child was born ,I have the cert which I got in 2004 . Very bad copy as the info was photocopied in and was in a dark background I always thought the mother was Maria MARTEUS because that how it looked
My grandfather and one brother anglised their names and joined the British army in the 1890,s and both served in the second boar war
The family had moved down to London by 1901 and both men were stationed at the woolwich barracks which is the area my family lived in Grandfather met and married grandmother in 1902 . He sadly died in June 1911 and the other brother early 1911 Their mum died in 1907 in the German hospital Dalston
Sooo it's been a big fat blank on finding where they came from and what happened to three other brothers and the dad
I replied to a thread on find ancestors board asking about German ancestry giving my experience with finding and not finding info and the poster gave a Facebook group who were about German ancestry
Well in two days I have been given the details of the marriage of the grandparents and their full names plus their German names of all the sons
My grandfather was called Fred on the 1891 census and he married as Frederick
Turns out his name was Josef Louis Fritz Fahse Fritz is also the German for Frederick He was born Hamburg
The mother who called hersel Maria. Was Carolina Maria Katherina MARTENS .
The father was Friedrich Auguste Fahse. He went by the name of Auguste
The brother Carl who anglised his name to Charles was Carl F M Fahse born probably in Juterbog It does match because looking now at the GRO where you can see mmn it's MARTENS !! For the brother reg 1889
So for 14 years I have been at at standstill and in two days I have the family. They married in the Berlin Area I even have the next generation back because the marriage names birth fathers
So I am on a roll now to try and trace the brothers. Am betting they may have gone to America
To say I am chuffed is an understatement
