Does anyone know what name Dolly might be a nickname for? I’ve tried Dorothy and Dolores without success. Unfortunately the only people I can ask only knew her as Aunt Dolly. As her parents married in Scotland in 1906 I can most likely get the certificate to prove it’s her but I cannot find any census. |

1911 Scottish census can be seen on Scotland’s People website, but you will have to purchase credits to see it |

My mother was called Dolly all of her life because her older brothers had said she looked like a little dolly when she was born but her name was Barbara, so I think the name could have applied to any name which doesn't help you at all. |

Thank you both. I’ll take a look at the census and try Doreen. |

I was told she married someone called Mort. All the children were born in Scotland. Sydney died in WW2. |

Is it 100% proven that this person was a child of the parents whose names you have posted? Just checking - as it was commonplace for unrelated close family friends to be called ‘aunt’ by children by way of showing affection and out of politeness |
