Irish records are patchy.

I've looked on irishgenealogy.ie, Ancestry, FamilySearch - no luck.
Can't see the other children's biirths, either.

Can't see William/Henry and Mary in 1901 census, in England or Ireland.

If the girls were born in Ireland is there any way that I can find their records ?

Yes, it does look as if the 1900 marriage is the right one after all, even though the groom is Henry William instead of William Henry.

His father is certainly William, licensed victualler., and from censuses he was born in Westminster.

I think the girls must have been born in Ireland, as there's no trace of them in England, no matter how I search for them.
Can't find their births in Ireland either, but that seems the most likely scenario.


As William's baptism record (posted above) gives his DOB as 9 Sept 1878, this may be him and Mary (plus a lodger?) in 1939. Years of birth are frequently slightly wrong on the 1939 Register, but days and months of birth are usually correct.

ArgyllGran I think you’re onto something with the Hetty thing - that would mean that I have the right marriage of ‘my ‘ Hetty’s parents in Farnborough . The question is, why on the 1911 census is Hetty & her sisters birth place is given as Aldershot & I can’t find anything on GRO ? Their siblings were born in Ireland, could Hetty & her sister have been too ? The marriage in Farnborough took place in December 1900 & Hetty came among in April 1901 ( ! ) . I had already discounted those censuses, because that William Codd is the wrong man.

That one married Florence Hesketh in 1904, and was still alive in 1939.

The 1939 Register never gives birthplaces.

In the 1939 index Hetty’s birthdate is given as April 2nd 1901 but no place !

So now I have no maiden name for Hetty’s mother ...

I think you might be right about the Ireland marriage - it doesn’t look like the Farnborough one is the right one

If the 1900 marriage is not the correct couple, maybe Hetty's parents married in Ireland.

Are you sure Henry William, who married Mary Mahoney, is the same person as William in 1911?
