That's a good point, names.
I was helping a friend with her tree and she was puzzled by the marriage of a Thomas. When she eventually got a photocopy of the actual register, he was in fact James.
The more times a record is copied, the more chance there is for human error.

Thanks AG but I meant the actual page in the church register not the transcription.
Just in case there was any comments or changes made.

Was this a church wedding.? If so, have you seen the actual church register? I have a registry office cert. which gives the 1sr name of the grooms father correctly but gives the surname of the stepmothers later husband. Someone seems not to have got their head round all the options.

My query regarding the name George DUNN on a marriage certificate and not Joseph DUNN has certainly generated a lot of stuff! I await a response from GRO but am pretty sure that this is some kind of recording error on the part of the registrar. Thank you all for your interest.

Malcolm - the information you are giving us is confusing.
Your Gr-grandfather was George Drew, who married Charlotte Dunn. Charlotte was the daughter of Henry Dunn, son of Joseph Dunn the chainmaker.
Have I understood that correctly?
If so, Henry Dunn is your gr-gr-grandfather, not Joseph . Joseph would be your 3 x gr-grandfather.
So it was Henry and Susannah who married in 1843:
Marriages Dec 1843 (>99%) DUNN Henry W. Bromwich 18 664 Hodgetts Susannah W Bromwich
Where did you get the name George?
EDIT: Oh, I see - it's the groom's father's name.
Probably just a mistake on the part of the registrar / church clerk.

re Henry Dunn, Joseph's son -
Trees on Ancestry don't mention a second marriage for Joseph. Joseph's (first?) wife Mary nee Birch, apparently died in 1853.
She's still with him in 1851:
Mary Dunn in the 1851 England Census Name: Mary Dunn Age: 73 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1778 Relation: Wife Spouse's Name: Joseph Dunn Gender: Female Where born: Drayton Civil Parish: Birmingham St Martin County/Island: Warwickshire Country: England Street Address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Disability: View image Registration District: Birmingham Sub-registration District: St Martin ED, institution, or vessel: 18 Neighbors: Household Schedule Number: 62 Piece: 2053 Folio: 498 Page Number: 17 Household Members: Name Age Joseph Dunn 72 - chain maker Mary Dunn 73 Mary Wellington 32 Henry Wellington 7
So Joseph couldn't have been marrying in 1843,in Staffordshire or anywhere else.

As a newby to this site many thanks for all your replies. Gwyn - The marriage cert. was issued in Handsworth, Staffs. The 1841 Census is particularly interesting as this lists Joseph Dunn, wife Mary & Wenesy/Henry whose age is rounded up to 30. But at the top of the same page is Susannah Hodgetts in the same street listed 2 years prior to her marriage to Henry Dunn! Joseph is listed as a Shoe Maker but leather was also used in the Chain & Hame Maker Trade. The address will be well known to us Brummies - Bordesley St which is adjacent to Park Street. An area in which several Dunn's plied their trade as Chainmakers. Joseph is featured in an 1839 Wrightson's Directory as a Chainmaker at 34, Bordesley Street.
With regard to Baptisms. I have found Henry 1809, Joseph 1811 and Mary 1814 baptised to Joseph & Mary at a Presbyterian Church in Cradley, Staffs. As all other services relating to the Dunns appear to be C of E maybe this is because Chainmaking was a major industry in Cradley and this seemed to be a convenience. Obviously I need some more clarification on this matter.
In response to an earlier question my Great Grandfather was George Drew 1845-1890 who married into the Dunns - Charlotte Dunn 1852-1906. I have a photo of Charlotte but cannot see where to attach it to this post.

That man's an engine driver, Shirley, not a chain maker.
Malcolm's trying to link the marriage to a Joseph Dunn, chain maker.

There were only three George Dunn marriages in 1843 in England/Wales. in Durham, Bradford, and Basford reg districts.
Still looking for a Joseph Dunn, chainmaker, in or near one of these places. . . . .
