Huia Report 11 Aug 2009 10:13

Thank you all for your concern.

On Thursday I am going to look at a secure Rest Home in my home town which is only 35 mins drive away. They are expecting a vacancy (does that mean death?) next week. I will certainly grab it for my OH if it comes up. Our daughter lives in the home town with her children so that will help, and there wont be the same rush to sell this house. Also, it will be easier for OH's sister to visit than in Rotorua, although it will mean more driving for me than if I sold this house and bought one in Rotorua to put him in a Home there. But that might come at a later stage. The first thing is to get him out of here and into a secure place, and he will also need to be reassessed as I wont be able to afford to pay for him to stay there full time. At present I have 27 days left of my 28 days entitlement, I just hope it applies to the Rest Home. I had been told I had to get somebody to come here while I went away but perhaps I was just being fobbed off because there are few vacancies in Rest Homes.

Must be off to bed soon.

Huia.

Huia, keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that you will be able to get OH into the Rest Home in your home town, which isn't too far from where you live. It will be nice that your daughter and her family live in the town. Having her nearby will help to make things a lot easier for you. Thinking about you and OH. Wishing you Good Luck for Thursday!

Best wishes.

Mo in Kent Report 11 Aug 2009 18:49

Hi everyone.
We had some very sad news today. One of our neighbours passed away.
He was such a lovely man, even tough he had had bad health, for quite a few years. But he recovered time after time, such a strong personality.
And always up for a good laugh and joke. Rest in peace Eddie.
Sorry girls,I am o.k. It just seems to me,that all the good people in this world suffer, and the rotten ones live a life of riley.
Well my friends, how are we all today. Roly and I are fine, thank the lord.
We have not done much, just been shopping to one of our local shopping centers. It was nice and cool in there, where as outside it's been another scorcher.
I have been in the garden, and done a bit of weeding, around the patio. It
was to hot to stay out there to long though.
Jean,do not enlarge that pic,and put it on the wardrobe door. We don't want you to get over excited,or to frighten the life out of yourself,if you should wake up and feel like you are surrounded by all those men. Ohhh
I don't know,I think I may copy you. lol I can dream I suppose.
Hi Marilyn,Sallie, Huia,Grace,Sue and Debbie. Love to you all. Mo xxx

Hi Everyone,

Mo, I'm so sorry to hear about your neighbour. As you say it always seems that the good ones suffer and the bad ones live to torment others--and they get away with it. It's just so unfair!
Good to hear that both you and Roly are alright. It's been lovely here today, but just a bit too warm to suit me.

Marilyn, I've just been reading your thread about new potatoes. Both my friend and I, have thought for a while that the new potatoes don't have a lot of taste to them. I've got to the stage where I just know which ones to buy. As some suggested on your thread, we'll have to try to grow our own.
Don't know how successful that will be.

Hello to Jean, Sue, Huia, Marie, Debbie and Grace.

Best wishes to you all.

Love, Sallie.xx

Hi all. You have got me dying of curiosity about this photo. I gather it is a bunch of MEN. I had a bunch of policemen on Saturday but was not in any state to apprecieate it, apart from the reason they were here :(( Talk about missed opportunities, although I did take a photo of them leaning over a map on the bonnet of one of their cars and discussing tactics.

I took a sleeping pill last night and fell asleep immediately. I was offered a cuppa at 1.50. Declined it and fell asleep again immediately, so dont feel too bad this morning. I might take OH for a little walk this morning then buy some petrol for his mower so he can mow the lawns if it is still fine. He was going to do it on Sunday but said it was out of petrol. Better go and find his shaver lead which he has lost.

How strange, I have not read this thread thinking it was a reprise of the introductions thread and here you all are chatting away.

Mo, I am so sorry to read about your neighbour, I am sure you will miss him.

Huia, just read about your scare on the carers thread, what a worry, I hope that you can find a place in a secure home that is acceptable to you.

Sallie Report 11 Aug 2009 21:47

Huia, sorry I'm not sure what photos some of them were talking about.
So pleased that you are feeling a bit better today and that you managed to get a good nights sleep. Hope you managed to get some petrol for your mower and that your OH could get the lawns cut.

Ann, it's nice to see you on this thread. Just been reading your scrapbooking thread. I'll have a look for the magazine that Ninja's bought, I hope they do 12x12 layout ideas, as well as smaller layouts. It's a bit more expensive than my usual one Scrapbook Inspirations, but it might be worth the extra money.

Goodnight All.

Hi all ~~~~~

Tomorrow (in a bit over 12 hours time) I will be going to have a look at at least 2 Rest Homes, possibly another 2 if I can fit them in before my daughter has to go to work. She starts at 4pm, but the places are all over South Auckland so quite a bit of driving to visit them. Daughter will be looking after her dad while I am gadding around. She has 2 dogs, so he can help her to walk them round the block and when she tires of that she can ask him questions about his life in England. He remembers back that far. He arrived in New Zealand in Jan 1951 which is quite a long time ago. I am sure she will find something to keep him occupied. I just hope that she can persuade him not to go looking for me. I will have my cell phone on, just in case. She can give me a ring and he can talk to me. I am feeling quite happy about the way things are moving, although he probably wont be going into a permanent home immediately. I might just get him into one of the short term ones for 3 days to give me a break and put his name down for long term for when he has been reassessed. At least 3 days with him away will give me time to get a bit more sleep. Life looks so much brighter when I am not tired.

Huia.

Hi Everyone,

Huia, hope all goes well tomorrow, and that you will be lucky enough to get OH into the home that's nearest to you. You sound so much better today and more positive. I'll be thinking about you and wishing you good luck.

Marilyn, I hope all your blood test results are okay. Please let us know how you got on.

Jean, I would love some more of your piccies please.
I haven't got a photo taken on my own, as I hate having my photo taken.
But you are welcome to have one taken with someone else, if that's any good.

I'll look in again later, better start preparing our dinner.

Best wishes,

Love, Sallie.xx

Welcome to Ann,it's nice to hear from you, please pop back and chat whenever you feel like it,you are most welcome here.
Sallie my love,if you send me your e.mail addy,I will send you the cheeky
pic we are talking about. Sorry not to have sent it before, but I did not have your addy. It's a saucy one,not dirty.
How are you and Alun keeping. Have you got any more visitors coming?
All you clever scrapbookers,I am envious. I would not know where to start.
Well Huia,I am wondering how you have got on today. Have they offered
your OH just three days,or can they help you out on a permamant basis.
I suppose it may be a good idea,to try him on a three day visit,to see how he settles first though.
The break will do you the world of good,to help you get your strength back.
What time have you got the doctors Marilyn? You must be special,to have got three invites to go there, you are popular.
No seriously,I hope you get on alright. I have just reread the thread, and you had to go this morning, stupid me.
Oh I forgot,if you would like the pic as well Huia, just let me know.

Hi Everyone,

Well I'm still ALIVE.. LOL

Got underactive Thyroid, and if I'm not carefull could end up a Diabetic !!
So out goes all my Chocolates ...Cakes ....Biccy's , and most precious of all my ......WINE.!

So I guess its a sad tale really...
I have been and got loads of salad, and sorted my biccys out or rather going to put them at the top of the cupboard , as hubby needs them .

So in the mean time I'm just going to sulk !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wish I hadn't gone now LOL

Mo in Kent

Mo in Kent Report 12 Aug 2009 19:11

Tell yourself that those biccies are nasty and fattening Marilyn. Think thin,
cheer up lovey,it's for the best.
Well hello Grace. It's good to speak to you.
Where abouts in Blackpol did Gemma appear Grace. Was it the tower or the winter gardens.
Like you,a lot of my ancesters came from Devon. Around the Stoke area.
And the others were from Talland Cornwall. I have never heard of the places before.
But I have come unstuck, one set of the family. Charles Cornelius Foster
1869. Married Mary Martha Flaherty 1869 in March 1890,but it has her birth
as either India or Ceylon. And I cannot find her parents. I believe her father
was Matthias Flaherty, but not sure. So now you can see why I gave up.
So you see Grace,we could well be related, what with my Irish ancestors
as well as you.
You must be so proud of your grandaughters.

My OH woke me at 5.56am despite a note on the bench saying no cuppa for me, let me sleep. It is still dark outside almost an hour later. Most of the places I am looking at are short stay (as well as long stay ones) which currently have vacancies. I dont think the one I prefer has short stay but I can at least put his name on the waiting list until such time as he has been reassessed as needing it, and in the meantime use the short stay once or twice for 2/3 days at a time to give me some breathing space. Who would be a siamese twin?

Huia.

Hello Girls,

Mo, received the photo-- I like it, it really made me have a good laugh. Thank you! Did you send a copyto Huia? I'm sure she will appreciate it.
I'm okay thank you Mo, but Alun has a cold so is feeling a bit under the weather. I don't think we are having any more visitors for a while. Alun and I are hoping to go across to North Wales some time at the beginning of September to try and find some information on my father's side of the family.

Jean, thank you for the rest of the piccies. They are really lovely. I'm not very good at sending photos or documents by e-mail, Alun has to do all that for me. The problem with that is, I have to ask him a few times to do something before he gets round to doing it. But I'll send them as soon as possible.

Grace, nice to hear from you. Well done to Gemma on her charity appearance at Blackpool, and on raising the money for the 4 year old boy.
I'll have to have a look at My Space or the other website you mentioned.

Marilyn, sorry to hear that you can't have any more goodies.
Never mind, it could be a lot worse. As long as you are alright, that's all that matters.

Huia, hope you will be successful in finding a rest home for your OH.

Hope all is well, with Sue, Marie and Debbie and their families.

Best wishes to everyone!

Love, Sallie.xx
