I've only eaten home-made fried pies. My M-I-L used to tell me that when she was a girl, they were made with dried apples. Fruit was dried outside at that time, so I expect there was some additional flavouring included !!!!

Ruby - the company canteen where I worked made it regularly and it was one of the tastiest sweets you could have. mmmmmmm!!!!!

My MIL always made a Corned Beef and potato Tart ( it had a bottom crust ) for any celebration buffet in the family... It was brilliant and it became 'expected ' of her to do so...she loved doing it, and was pleased that there was never any left overs ;-)
It was usually a scramble to get to it first :-D

$$ - My mother made cornbeef and potato pie regularly when i was young. It also included chopped onions. Served with veg and lashings of gravy it was a real belly buster and one of my favourites.
