Need some help/advice please.

I have always struggled to find a birth for Maureen. Not helped by the fact that family were Irish Catholics living in India. I have found her marriage certificate to Mr Jessop and her death certificate.

On her marriage certificate she is listed as being Maureen O'Gorman but Andrew O'Gorman was her step father and not her father. I believe she is the child of Clara Louisa Maile (who later married Andrew O'Gorman) and Charles Walter McMorran

Today on the probate search I found the entry for her probate - but it says - Jessop, Maureen Louise otherwise Mary Louise. I have ordered the will/probate but wonder if anyone knows why she would be listed like this.

Maureen Louise would be her name but she was also known as Mary Louise. Perhaps she preferred the name Mary.

Thank you for your help - She was definitely known to us as Maureen - I have never heard her referred to as Mary.


She was born in June 1901 and she married Richard Jessop in India.

Charles Walter McMorran died in Exeter in April 1902 so I am not sure if she was born in India or in UK

Thank you - William Wallis married my grandmother - Kathleen Bride O'Gorman in Poona - who was Maureen's half sister.

Ref 1901 Census - no trace of Clara Louisa with Charles Walter McMorran in UK - a mystery though as Maureen/Mary Louise was due to be born in June that year.

When Charles McMorran died in 1902 his son was the one who registered the death.
