Alfred Sidney Stratton, born Alfred Sidney Digby 1905, that is what I think.
Parents are Thomas & Mary Digby (nee Stratton) but on Alfred's marriage cert father is Harry Stratton

1911 Censes Alfred Sidney Stratton is in a Scatter Home, Hanwell Middx, Harry Stratton is living with James & Elizabeth Digby

Can not find a marriage for Thomas & Mary, can not find Mary Stratton or Thomas Digby prior to 1905.

Maybe I can't see the wood for the tree's now
If any one can help linking these Stratton's & Digby's together I would so appreciate it

Alfred was always insistent of his name Alfred Sidney Stratton, his daughter always knew he had been in a poor house when younger

I found Rose Elizabeth on the GRO website, by searching for Digby/Stratton births within a few years of Alfred's birth.

On the 1891 census above, Harry Digby (who in 1901 is at the address on Rose Elizabeth's baptism record) has a brother Thomas.

And there's Mary Stratton of roughly the same age living along the road.

Perhaps they pretended to be married for the sake of respectability when having the children baptised? And Mary gave her surnme at that time as her maiden name.

If they weren't married, then Alfred might well have considered himself to be a Stratton rather than a Digby.

I can't see Thomas after 1891.

Oh well done, Maddie!

Somehow the significance of Mary's son Harry in 1901 hadn't registered with me!

Looking again at the 1911 census where Harry is with James Digby and family, his age is actually 24 (as, in fact, stated in Ancestry's transcription) , and not 44 as in the FMP version posted by GG. - so that's Mary's son.

So there's a possibility that Harry was Alfred and Rose's half-brother.
As he was 18 years older than Alfred, he may have seemed like a father-figure to Alfred, who possibly didn't know who his father was.

Where is Harry in 1891? He's not with his parents.
